James Trow
James Trow (December 16, 1826 – September 10, 1892) was an Ontario businessman and politician. He was a member of the first legislature in Ontario for the riding of Perth South and represented Perth South in the House of Commons of Canada from 1872 to 1891 as a Liberal. He was born in Newtown, Wales in 1826, was educated in Wales and came to Canada in 1841. He taught school for several years before becoming a broker in real estate. In 1847, he married Mary Moore. He was president of the Crown Mutual Fire Insurance Company, vice-president of the British Mortgage and Loan Company and the Perth Mutual Insurance Association. He was also a director for the Ontario Mutual Life Insurance Company of Waterloo. Trow was warden for Perth County in 1871 and reeve for the township of North Easthope for 21 successive years. Perth South (federal Electoral District)
Perth South was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1935. It was located in the province of Ontario. It was created by the British North America Act of 1867, which divided the County of Perth into two ridings. The South Riding of the County of Perth initially consisted of the Townships of Blanchard, Downie, South Easthope, Fullarton, Hibbert, and the Villages of Mitchell and St. Marys. In 1882, the townships of Usborne were added to the riding, and that of South Easthope was excluded. In 1903, Usborne was removed from the riding, and Easthope South and Logan townships were added. In 1914, the part of the village of Tavistock situated in the township of Easthope South was added. Stratford, Ontario
Stratford is a city on the Avon River within Perth County in southwestern Ontario, Canada, with a 2016 population of 31,465 in a land area of . Stratford is the seat of Perth County, which was settled by English, Irish, Scottish and German immigrants, in almost equal numbers, starting in the 1820s but primarily in the 1830s and 1840s. Most became farmers; even today, the area around Stratford is known for mixed farming, dairying and hog production. The area was settled in 1832, and the town and river were named after Stratford-upon-Avon, England. Stratford was incorporated as a town in 1859 and as a city in 1886. The first mayor was John Corry Wilson Daly and the current mayor is Dan Mathieson. The swan has become a symbol of the city. Each year twenty-four white swans are released into the Avon River. Robert MacFarlane (Canadian Politician)
Robert MacFarlane (March 23, 1835 – June 1, 1872) was a lawyer and Liberal member of the House of Commons of Canada representing Perth South from 1867 to 1872. He was born in Pakenham in Upper Canada in 1835, the son of William MacFarlane and Isabella Dickson, was educated in Toronto and was called to the Upper Canada bar in 1857. MacFarlane practised law in Stratford, Ontario. He married Mary Elizabeth Wood in 1870. In 1862, he ran unsuccessfully against Thomas Mayne Daly in a by-election in Perth County; in 1863, he defeated Daly and represented Perth in the 8th Parliament of the Province of Canada.
