James T. Kelley (architect)
James T. Kelley (1855–1929) was an American architect practicing in Boston, Massachusetts. Life and career James Templeton Kelley was born September 4, 1855, in Roxbury, Massachusetts to Thomas Kelley and Jane (Stinson) Kelley. Kelley worked for Sturgis & Brigham before opening his own office in 1886. In the 1890s he was joined by draftsman and later architect Harold S. Richards Free Library
The Seth Mason Richards House, housing the Richards Free Library and the Library Arts Center, is a historic house, public library, and art gallery at 58 North Main Street in Newport, New Hampshire. This three-story Colonial Revival house was designed by Boston, Massachusetts architect James T. Kelley and built in 1898-99 for Captain Seth Mason Richards, a scion of one of Newport's wealthiest families. The property, including the house and carriage house, were donated by his heirs for use as the town's public library in 1962. The library is housed in the main building, while the carriage house has been converted for use as a gallery space. Marion is a town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 5,347 at the 2020 census. History Marion was first settled in 1679 as "Sippican", a district of Rochester, Massachusetts. The name, which also lends itself to the river which passes through the north of town and the harbor at the heart of town, was the Wampanoag name for the local tribe. The town was mostly known for its many local sea captains and sailors whose homes were in town, although there were also some small shipbuilding operations on the harbor as well. By the late 1840s, however, tensions between the village of Mattapoisett and the town led to a battle which sought to redraw the town lines and effectively take over Sippican Village. The Diamond Historic District is a seaside, National Register of Historic Places, National Register historic district (United States), historic district in Lynn, Massachusetts. Established by the National Park Service in 1996, the district is situated between downtown Lynn and the Atlantic Ocean—bounded roughly by Broad and Lewis Streets to the north, Lynn Shore Drive to the southeast, Nahant Street to the west, and Eastern Avenue to the east. The Diamond Historic District encompasses 590 contributing resources. Although the Washington Square section of the Diamond Historic District—which is arrayed along Broad Street—was first settled by Europeans in the 1630s, the oldest surviving structure in the Diamond District is the c. 1825 Daniel Newhall House. Charles Lovejoy House
The Charles Lovejoy House is a historic house at 64 Broad Street in Lynn, Massachusetts. The -story Colonial Revival mansion was built in 1893 for Doctor Charles Lovejoy, one of the founders of Lynn Hospital. It features a Palladian entrance with pilasters topped by a triangular pediment surrounding a recessed entry. The entry is flanked by wings that have two windows on the first floor, one on the second, and then gable-dormered windows at the top. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, and was included in the Diamond Historic District in 1996. Lynn Bank Block
The Lynn Bank Block is a historic bank building at 21–29 Exchange Street in Lynn, Massachusetts. The three-story building was built for the First National Bank of Lynn and the Lynn Institution for Savings in 1891. It was the first Colonial Revival construction in Lynn's rebuilding effort after a disastrous fire destroyed much of its central business district in 1889. Most of the earlier buildings erected after the fire were in Romanesque Revival styling. The building features a large central entry section with an arch framing a recessed doorway and a Palladian window above, which is flanked by columns. On either side of the entry the building extends for three window bays. The two banking institutions shared the building, one occupying each side. Olmsted Subdivision Historic District is a historic district roughly bounded by New Ocean St/Paradise Road, Swampscott Avenue, Redington Street and Burrill Street in Swampscott, Massachusetts. According to the May 2005 Massachusetts Heritage Landscape Inventory Program (Swampscott Reconnaissance Report), “This large residential neighborhood was planned by Frederick Law Olmsted, Sr. in 1888 at the request of the Swampscott Land Trust. The 130-acre estate had belonged to E. Redington Mudge. Olmsted’s plan with its curvilinear roads layout, traffic islands, entrance parkway, use of the topographic features and fine architecture is remarkably well preserved. Swampscott Town Hall, previously the Elihu Thomson House, is a historic building in Swampscott, Massachusetts. The house was designed by architect James T. Kelley and built in 1889 for the noted inventor, electrical engineer, and industrialist Elihu Thomson (1853-1937). Thomson was, with Edwin J. Houston, co-founder of the Thomson-Houston Electric Company which would later merge with Thomas Edison's Edison General Electric Company to become the General Electric Company. The house was built with an observatory, which no longer exists. It has housed Swampscott town offices since 1944, when it was given to the town by Thomson's heirs.
