James Sharp (bishop)
James Sharp, or Sharpe, (4 May 1618 – 3 May 1679) was a minister in the Church of Scotland, or kirk, who served as Archbishop of St Andrews from 1661 to 1679. His support for Episcopalianism, or governance by bishops, brought him into conflict with elements of the kirk who advocated Presbyterianism. Twice the victim of assassination attempts, the second cost him his life. Biography James Sharp was born at Banff Castle on 4 May 1618, eldest son of William Sharp (1592–1638) and Isabel Leslie (1595-ca 1640). His father was property manager, or factor, for the Earl of Findlater; his mother was the daughter of the Laird of Kininvie. His younger brother, Sir William Sharp of Stonihill (1622–1685), was political agent to the Duke of Lauderdale, Scottish Secretary of State from 1661 to 1680. James Sharp (mayor)
James Sharp (18 November 1843 – 7 May 1904) was the sixth mayor of Salt Lake City, serving from 1885 to 1886. For several years, Sharp was also a member of the University of Utah board of regents. He was that university's chancellor from 1882 to 1883. Early life and career Sharp was born in Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland on 18 November 1843. James Shairp
James Maitland Shairp (died 1795) was an officer in the British Marines and a member of the First Fleet which founded European settlement in Australia. Commissioned as a Marines officer in 1778, Shairp volunteered for Australian service in 1787 and spent two years as second in command at Rose Hill, New South Wales, the colony's only inland settlement. In 1789 he was a principal protagonist in the "Criminal Court Affair," a dispute between civilian and military authorities which was a catalyst for the 1792 replacement of the colony's Marine detachment with the New South Wales Corps. His colonial deployment at an end, Shairp returned to England in 1792 and resumed his service with the Chatham Division of Marines. Jimmy Sharp
James Sharp (11 October 1880 – 18 November 1949) was a Scottish international footballer. Career Club Born in Alyth, Perthshire, Sharp began his career with East Craigie and then joined Dundee in 1899. There he was a regular at left back in his five seasons there, where he earned a Scottish First Division runners-up medal in 1902–03. In 1904 he moved south of the border to Fulham, who were then in the Southern League. A year later, in 1905 he was snapped up by Woolwich Arsenal of the First Division and promptly became a regular in the side after making his debut against Liverpool on 2 September 1905. He missed only three league games in his first season and reached the FA Cup semi-finals twice in his first two seasons. Rangers prised him away in April 1908 for £400. In total he played 116 games for Arsenal, scoring 5 goals. His spell at Rangers only lasted nine months before he moved back to London again, rejoining Fulham for a transfer fee of £1,000.
