James Patrick Lannon
James Patrick Lannon (October 12, 1878 – March 13, 1953) was born in Alexandria, Virginia. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1902. He received the Medal of Honor for actions at the United States occupation of Veracruz, 1914. He was awarded the Navy Cross for service as commanding officer of in the Mediterranean Sea during World War I, served in World War II, and retired in 1947. Biography In 1916, Lannon attended the Naval War College along with Philip Andrews, Frank D. Berrien, Henry F. Bryan, George F. Cooper, Louis R. de Steiguer, Ben H. Fuller, Templin M. Potts and David F. Sellers. He commanded the gunboat ''Nashville'' from October 1917 to October 1918. After World War I, Lannon commanded the gunboat from May 1923 to September 1924. He was promoted to captain on May 24, 1925. Lannon subsequently commanded the light cruiser from August 1928 to June 1930. Lannon retired from active duty as a captain on June 30, 1937. Philip Andrews (30 March 1866 – 18 December 1935) was a United States Navy officer during World War I who later became admiral. Early life and career Andrews was born in New York City, and was appointed to the United States Naval Academy from New Jersey in 1882. Templin Potts
Templin Morris Potts (November 1, 1855 – March 22, 1927) was a United States Navy Captain and the 11th Naval Governor of Guam. He held many important posts during his time in the Navy, including Director of the Office of Naval Intelligence, Naval attaché to Kaiser Wilhelm II, and aid for naval personnel. During the Spanish–American War, he participated in the Battle of Santiago de Cuba, after which he commanded a number of ships. In 1913, he was forced into retirement after not having spent a large enough portion of his service at sea. This forced retirement sparked outrage from many, and led to letters and marches of protest. A United States Senator even introduced a bill in Congress to have him re-instated. Though these efforts all ultimately failed, they led to greater scrutiny of the retirement board. Ben Hebard Fuller (February 27, 1870 – June 8, 1937) was a major general in the United States Marine Corps and served as the 15th Commandant of the United States Marine Corps, Commandant of the Marine Corps between 1930 and 1934. Biography Born in Big Rapids, Michigan, Fuller was a member of the United States Naval Academy class of 1889.
