James O. Ellison
James Oliver Ellison (January 11, 1929 – November 22, 2014) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma. Education and career Ellison was born on January 11, 1929, in St. Louis, Missouri,. In 1946, he graduated from the Oklahoma Military Academy (located on what is now the campus of Rogers State University in Claremore, Oklahoma). Ellison received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1951 and concurrently received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1951. He served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953, achieving the rank of captain. He was in private practice in Red Fork, Oklahoma from 1953 to 1955, and in Tulsa, Oklahoma from 1955 to 1979. Senior Status
Senior status is a form of semi- retirement for United States federal judges. To qualify, a judge in the federal court system must be at least 65 years old, and the sum of the judge's age and years of service as a federal judge must be at least 80 years. As long as senior judges carry at least a 25 percent caseload or meet other criteria for activity, they remain entitled to maintain a staffed office and chambers, including a secretary and their normal complement of law clerks, and they continue to receive annual cost-of-living increases. Senior judges vacate their seats on the bench, and the president may appoint new full-time judges to fill those seats. Some U.S. states have similar systems for senior judges. State courts with a similar system include Iowa (for judges on the Iowa Court of Appeals), Pennsylvania, and Virginia (for justices of the Virginia Supreme Court). The ''Tulsa World'' is the daily newspaper for the city of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and primary newspaper for the northeastern and eastern portions of Oklahoma. Tulsa World Media Company is part of Lee Enterprises. The new owners announced in January 2020 that a corporate purchase was made of BH Media Group, a Berkshire Hathaway company controlled by Warren Buffett.
