James Lloyd (Maryland Politician)
James Lloyd (1756 – September 20, 1830) was an American politician. Lloyd as born at Farley (now Fairlee) near Chestertown, Maryland. He pursued classical studies and studied law, was admitted to the bar, and commenced practice. He was commissioned second lieutenant in the Kent County militia in 1776 and served during the American Revolutionary War. He was a general in the War of 1812 and he freed captive Francis Scott Key from Fort McHenry. Lloyd was elected as a Federalist to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of John Henry and served from December 8, 1797, until December 1, 1800, when he resigned. On June 27, 1798, Lloyd introduced the Sedition Act of 1798, a part of the Alien and Sedition Acts. He engaged in the practice of law afterwards. James Lloyd Logsdon (April 1, 1922 – October 7, 2001) was an American country and rockabilly singer, songwriter and radio DJ. He performed country music as Jimmie (or Jimmy) Logsdon, and rockabilly music, including his best-known song "I Got a Rocket in My Pocket," as Jimmy Lloyd. Life and career Logsdon was born in Panther, Kentucky, the son of a Methodist minister. He and his sister sang in choirs and took part in local talent contests, and he grew up listening to rhythm and blues as well as country music. He graduated from high school in Ludlow, Kentucky, in 1940, and married the same year, before starting work installing PA systems in nearby Cincinnati. He joined the Air Corps in 1944, and on leaving two years later opened a record and radio shop in La Grange, Kentucky. Jimmy Lloyd (November 3, 1918 – August 26, 1988) was an American actor who played Tex in the 1947 film serial ''The Sea Hound''. Early years Lloyd was born in Bettendorf, Iowa. Growing up, he lived in Kansas City, where he was a student at George B. Longan Elementary School and Westport High School. His career began when he did stand-up comedy in floor shows in Kansas City. Rotherham shoe rapist is a media epithet given to convicted British serial rapist James Desmond Lloyd from Rotherham, a metropolitan borough of South Yorkshire, England. After attacking his victims, Lloyd stole their footwear and jewellery to keep as trophies. Lloyd was known to be active between 1983 and 1986 when his offending suddenly stopped. He was arrested in 2006 after a familial DNA profile linked him to the crimes. He pleaded guilty to four rapes and two attempted rapes, and was sentenced to fifteen years in prison. Frederick James Lloyd (12 October 1905 in Alsager, England – 1974) was an English artist. He became famous for his paintings, mostly of animals and country landscapes. He was the first living self-taught artist to have a painting hung at the Tate in London, titled ''Cat and Mouse''. Life Lloyd was the son of a policeman who had taken up farming. He had worked on his father's farm until the age of 19, when he too joined the police force. He had a variety of jobs before the war: gas-works stoker; bus conductor; builder's labourer; lamp-lighter; until he was accepted for the famous and exclusive British Army regiment of the Coldstream Guards. James Lloyd (March 24, 1728 – March 14, 1810) was an American surgeon and obstetrician. He was born at the Manor of Queens Village on Long Island, New York to Henry Lloyd and Rebecca Nelson. His father's sizable collection of medical texts may have inspired him to pursue a career as a doctor. James apprenticed and studied under the Boston physicians Silvester Gardiner and John Clark between 1745 and 1748, and, in 1749, traveled to London to work as a resident at Guy's Hospital. There, he learned groundbreaking surgical techniques like flap amputations, and attended lectures performed by pioneering surgeons and obstetricians. James Lloyd (December 1769April 5, 1831) was a merchant, businessman and Federalist party politician from Massachusetts during the early years of the United States. He twice served as United States Senator, notably succeeding John Quincy Adams after the latter lost the party vote due to his support of the Embargo Act of 1807.
