James L. Goodwin State Forest
James L. Goodwin State Forest is a Connecticut state forest covering approximately in the towns of Chaplin and Hampton. The lands became public property when James L. Goodwin donated the personal forest he had been developing since 1913 to the state in 1964. Features ;Ponds and trails The forest encompasses Pine Acres Lake and two smaller ponds, Black Spruce Pond and Brown Hill Pond, that are used for fishing and canoeing. The forest has of trails for hiking, cross-country skiing, and horseback riding. Blue-Blazed Trails
The Blue-Blazed Hiking Trail (BBHT) system, managed by the Connecticut Forest and Park Association, Connecticut Forest & Park Association (CFPA), and the related trail systems documented in the two-volume ("East" and "West") 19th Edition of the "Connecticut Walk Book" comprise over 800 miles of hiking trails in Connecticut. There are now over 825 miles of CFPA Blue-Blazed Hiking Trails that pass through 96 towns traversing both public and private lands. This includes all official main and side trails. The main line trails are marked using the solid light blue rectangular vertical trail blazing, paint blaze. A recent change in blaze design to official CFPA connector, side and alternate trails is now in use. Natchaug Trail
The Natchaug Trail is a ''Blue-Blazed Trails, Blue-Blazed'' hiking trail "system" which meanders through of forests in northeast Connecticut—primarily in Windham County, Connecticut, Windham County. It is maintained by the Connecticut Forest and Park Association. Its southern trailhead begins in the James L. Goodwin State Forest in the towns of Chaplin, Connecticut and Hampton, Connecticut and the northern terminus is at its intersection with the Nipmuck Trail in Natchaug State Forest in Eastford, Connecticut. Air Line State Park Trail
Air Line State Park Trail is a rail trail and linear state park located in Connecticut. The trail is divided into sections designated South (a 25-mile trail from East Hampton to Windham), North (a 21-mile trail from Windham to Putnam) a piece of the East Coast Greenway, and the Thompson addition (a 6.6-mile trail from Thompson to the Massachusetts state line). An additional 3.6-mile spur to Colchester is sometimes designated as part of the Air Line trail. At the Massachusetts state line, the trail connects to the Southern New England Trunkline Trail, a 22-mile-long trail to Franklin, MA built on the same right-of-way. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is a state agency in the US state of Connecticut.
