James Knight (explorer)
James Knight (–) was an English director of the Hudson's Bay Company and an explorer who disappeared on an expedition to find the Northwest Passage. Career Knight was born in England and joined the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) in 1676 as a carpenter. In 1682, he became chief factor of the trading post of Fort Albany in James Bay, where he became rich. In 1697, he bought stock in the HBC; in 1711, he gained a seat on the board of directors. The long wars of the Grand Alliance and the Spanish Succession between England and France had spread to North America and battered the Company financially and logistically. Four of the Company's five trading posts were lost to the French; Knight led an expedition in 1693 that successfully recaptured Fort Albany, the only one retained by the English. James Knight (Australian Politician)
James Mylne Knight (c.1826 – 21 August 1876) was an auctioneer and politician in colonial Victoria , a member of the Victorian Legislative Council. Knight was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, the son of George and Ann ''née'' Halley. Knight arrived in the Port Phillip District 1847 and briefly worked in his brother's (A. H.) grain and milling business. Knight moved to Belfast (later known as Port Fairy in 1848. He became a partner in the auctioneering firm Macgregor & Knight. On 15 November 1855, Knight was elected to the unicameral Victorian Legislative Council for Villiers and Heytesbury, a position he held until the original Council was abolished in March 1856. Knight died in Port Fairy, Victoria on 21 August 1876, he had married Matilda Bennett in 1853. James Carnahan Knight (November 16, 1875 – March 29, 1969) was an American football player and coach. He played college football at Princeton University in 1895 and at the University of Michigan in 1901. He was the head football coach at the University of Washington from 1902 to 1904 and compiled a 15–4–1 record. Early years Knight was born in Ottumwa, Iowa in November 1875. His father, Henry B. Knight, was an Ohio native and Presbyterian minister. His mother, Jane, was born in Pennsylvania. At the time of the 1880 United States Census, Knight was living with his parents and two older brothers (Louis and Harry) in Ottumwa. At the time of the 1885 Iowa State Census, Knight was living in Fairfield, Iowa where his father was employed as a professor at Parsons College. Lieutenant Colonel James Edward Knight TD JP, (1867 – 9 June 1930) was an English Architect based in Rotherham. He was the son of Henry John Knight (1837–1899) and Alice Ann Barton (1839–1924). He served in the 2nd Volunteer Battalion of the York and Lancaster Regiment, and was promoted to second lieutenant on 25 May 1898 and major on 1 April 1908. He was awarded the Territorial Decoration __NOTOC__ The Territorial Decoration (TD) was a military medal of the United Kingdom awarded for long service in the Territorial Force and its successor, the Territorial Army. James Bell Knight (3 January 1918 – 11 October 1943) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong and Carlton in the VFL. Family James Bell Knight, the son of Archie Cecil Clarence Knight (1896–1965), and Margaret May Knight (1892–1960), née Paterson, was born on 3 January 1918. Football Geelong Knight was Geelong's best and fairest player in 1941. Carlton He joined Carlton in 1942 after Geelong withdrew from the competition due to the war and spent two seasons with the club.
