James H. Hunter
James Hogg Hunter (Maybole, Scotland, 30 December 1890-London, Ontario 22 October 1982) was a Scottish-born Canadian Christian journalist, novelist and biographer. Hunter emigrated to Canada in 1913 at the age of 22 and began his journalistic career with the Peterborough, Ontario ''Farm and Dairy'' newspaper in that same year. Four years later he joined the Toronto Globe (later Globe and Mail) where, after breaking in as a cub reporter, he became a member of the editorial staff and wrote a regular bylined column: "The Outlook of the Church." He left the Globe in 1929 to become editor of the ''Evangelical Christian'' magazine which he edited until his retirement in 1969. He was an author of early evangelical Christian thrillers, notably ''The Mystery of Mar Saba'' (1940). Hunter was the editor of the ''Evangelical Christian'' magazine, published in Toronto. Maybole
Maybole (, ) is a town and former burgh of barony and police burgh in South Ayrshire, Scotland. It had an estimated population of in . It is situated south of Ayr and southwest of Glasgow by the Glasgow and South Western Railway. The town is bypassed by the A77 road, A77. ''The Globe'' was a Canadian newspaper in Toronto, Ontario, founded in 1844 by George Brown as a Reform voice. It merged with ''The Mail and Empire'' in 1936 to form ''The Globe and Mail''. History ''The Globe'' is pre-dated by a title of the same name, which ran from 1840 to 1841; they are of no relation. ''The Globe'' began as a weekly newspaper on March 5, 1844, edited by George Brown, a Presbyterian immigrant from Scotland by way of New York City, where he and his father had edited newspapers. Mar Saba
The Holy Lavra of Saint Sabbas, known in Arabic and Syriac as Mar Saba (; ; ; ) and historically as the Great Laura of Saint Sabas, is a Greek Orthodox monastery overlooking the Kidron Valley in the Bethlehem Governorate of Palestine, in the West Bank, at a point halfway between Bethlehem and the Dead Sea. The monks of Mar Saba and those of subsidiary houses are known as Sabaites. Mar Saba is considered one of the world's oldest (almost) continuously inhabited monasteries, and it maintains many of its ancient traditions. Secret Gospel Of Mark
The Secret Gospel of Mark or the Mystic Gospel of Mark (), also the Longer Gospel of Mark, is a wikt:putative, putative longer and secret or mystic version of the Gospel of Mark. The gospel is mentioned exclusively in the Mar Saba letter, a document of disputed authenticity, which is said to have been written by Clement of Alexandria (). This letter, in turn, is preserved only in photographs of a Greek handwritten copy seemingly transcribed in the 18th century into the endpapers of a 17th-century printed edition of the works of Ignatius of Antioch. Some scholars suggest that the letter implies that Jesus was involved in homosexual activity, although this interpretation is contested. In 1958, Morton Smith, a professor of ancient history at Columbia University, found a previously unknown letter of Clement of Alexandria in the monastery of Mar Saba situated south-east of Jerusalem.
