Overview Wheelchair curling is played with the same rocks and on the same ice as regular curling, though the rocks are thrown from a stationary wheelchair and there is no sweeping. Rocks may be thrown by hand while leaning over the side of the wheelchair, or pushed by a delivery stick. This is a pole with a bracket that fits over the rock handle, allowing the rock to be pushed while applying correct rotation. Stones delivered between the house and the near hogline must be placed within 18 inches either side of the centre line and must be released prior to reaching the near hogline. Tom Killin
Tom Killin (born 30 March 1950) is a British multi-sport Paralympian. Killin was paralysed following a traffic accident at the age of 17. Killin was born in Edinburgh. He won two medals in fencing at the 1970 Commonwealth Games. He also represented Scotland and Britain in disability table tennis and basketball for 12 years, including winning a World Championship silver medal in singles table tennis. Killin made his first Paralympic appearance as a wheelchair fencer at the 1980 Summer Games where he won two silver medals, and also competed in the 1984 Summer Paralympics. He first joined the Braehead Curling Club in 2003. In 2005 he represented Scotland at the World Championships in a team that also contained Frank Duffy, Ken Dickson, Angie Malone and Michael McCreadie. Aileen Neilson (born 15 August 1971) is a Scottish wheelchair curler. She is the first woman to skip a wheelchair curling team in either the Paralympic Games (2010) or World Championships (2011). Rosemary Lenton (born 21 August 1949) is a Scottish para lawn bowler and wheelchair curler. Life and career Lenton was born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire on 21 August 1949. She has previously competed in sailing and cycling. Complications after routine surgery in 2002 led to her using a wheelchair. She took up bowls in 2005. Michael McCreadie (born 16 March 1946, in Glasgow) is a Paralympian with successes in lawn bowls and wheelchair curling. He made his debut at the 1972 Summer Paralympics in Heidelberg as a swimmer. He won two bronze medals in lawn bowls at the 1976 Summer Paralympics. He also competed in swimming and wheelchair basketball at the same Games and captained the British wheelchair basketball team at the 1980 Summer Paralympics. After that he coached the British wheelchair basketball team at the 1988 and 1992 Summer Paralympics. In 2001 he took up wheelchair curling after trying the sport at his local rink at Braehead.
