James Edgar Walker
James Edgar Walker (July 21, 1911 – April 19, 1989) was a Canadian politician. Biography Born in Vegreville, Alberta, he attended the University of Alberta. After working as an insurance agent, he was transferred to Ontario in 1939 by the farm equipment company he was working for at the time. During World War II, he was a corporal with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. After the war, he worked in Toronto eventually starting his own insurance firm, James Walker Insurance Co. Limited, which he sold in 1959. In 1953, he was elected to the City of North York Council. In 1958, he ran unsuccessfully for reeve. He was elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the riding of York Centre in the 1962 federal election. A Liberal, he was re-elected in 1963, 1965, 1968, and 1972. From 1963 to 1965, he was the Chief Government Whip. York Centre (federal Electoral District)
York Centre () is a federal electoral district (Canada), electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1904 to 1917 and since 1953. As per the 2016 Census, 17.0% of York Centre residents are of Filipino ethnic origin, which is the highest figure among all city of Toronto ridings. At the same time, the York Centre riding has the highest percentage of residents of Russian (9.5%) and Jewish (5.6%) ethnic origins (in the 2011 National Household Survey, 13.6% of York Centre residents had entered a Jewish ethnic origin). 1965 Canadian Federal Election
The 1965 Canadian federal election was held on November 8, 1965, to elect members of the House of Commons of Canada of the 27th Parliament of Canada. The Liberal Party of Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson was re-elected to government, winning more seats than any other party. It won more seats in the House even though it received a smaller share of the popular vote. It fell short of a majority government. It formed a minority government that due to support from other MPs, lasted three years. The Citizenship Commission is an administrative tribunal within Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The overall mandate of the Commission is to assess referred applications to ensure they meet the physical-presence requirements for Canadian citizenship; and to facilitate citizenship ceremonies to administer Oaths of Citizenship for successful applicants.
