James De Courcy Hamilton
Rear-Admiral James de Courcy Hamilton (1 February 1860 – 24 February 1936) was a British Royal Navy officer and fire officer. He was the Chief Officer of the London Fire Brigade from 1903 to 1909. Biography Hamilton joined the Royal Navy in 1873, and was promoted to commander on 31 December 1895, and to captain on 1 January 1901. After he retired from the navy, he served as Chief Officer of the London Fire Brigade from 1903 to 1909, and for his service was appointed a Member of the Royal Victorian Order 4th class (MVO) on 19 July 1909. Hamilton was promoted to rear-admiral on the Retired list on 22 July 1910. He married Mabel Sang in 1901, and they had a son, William Evelyn de Courcy Hamilton, in late 1902. ''The Sketch'' was a British illustrated weekly journal. It ran for 2,989 issues between 1 February 1893 and 17 June 1959. It was published by the Illustrated London News, Illustrated London News Company and was primarily a society magazine with regular features on Monarchy, royalty, aristocracy and High society (group), high society, as well as theatre, Cinema of the United Kingdom, cinema and the arts. Royal Victorian Order
The Royal Victorian Order () is a dynastic order of knighthood established in 1896 by Queen Victoria. It recognises distinguished personal service to the monarch, members of the royal family, or to any viceroy or senior representative of the monarch. The present monarch, King Charles III, is the sovereign of the order. The order's motto is ''Victoria.'' The order's official day is 20 June. The order's chapel is the Savoy Chapel in London. Captain (Capt.) is a senior officer rank of the Royal Navy. It ranks above commander and below commodore and has a NATO ranking code of OF-5. Commander (Cdr) is a senior officer rank of the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom. It is immediately junior to captain and immediately senior to the rank of lieutenant commander. Officers holding the junior rank of lieutenant commander are not considered to be commanders.
