James Caine (other)
James Caine (24 June 1908 – 9 May 1971) was an English professional footballer who played as a central defender. He was on the books of three Football League clubs, but only played in the first-team for Nelson, where he made five league appearances. After leaving Bury in 1932, he spent some time in non-league football, before retiring to work in a factory. Biography Caine was born in the town Brierfield, Lancashire on 24 June 1908. After retiring from professional football, he worked in the William Fell & Co. weaving factory in nearby Nelson. Caine had six sons, and his son Brian also went on to become a professional footballer with Barrow. James Caine died in his home in Walton Lane, Nelson, on 9 May 1971, at the age of 62. Brierfield () is a town and civil parish in the Borough of Pendle, in Lancashire, England. It is north east of Burnley, south west of Nelson, and north east of Reedley. The parish had a population of 8,193, at the census of 2011. The parish adjoins the Pendle parishes of Reedley Hallows, Old Laund Booth and Nelson, the Burnley parish of Briercliffe, and the unparished area of the town of Burnley. History The building of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, the Blackburn to Addingham turnpike road, and the railway from Preston to Colne, led to the town developing during the 19th century. Before the new transport links were constructed, the town was just a scattering of farmhouses forming part of Marsden township known as Little Marsden, which also covered a large part of what was to become Nelson. Seedhill Football Ground
The Seedhill Football Ground was a football stadium in Nelson, Lancashire. It was the home of various incarnations of current North West Counties League Division One side Nelson F.C. from 1889, when the Burnley Express reported an opening senior fixture played against Burnley on March 16th 1889 (Lost 0-6), until 1971. During their tenure at Seedhill, Nelson were members of the English Football League between 1921 and 1931. Nelson's last game at Seedhill was a Lancashire Combination fixture on Sunday 28 March 1971 against local rivals, Clitheroe F.C. Local newspaper, the Nelson Leader, reported that a crowd of over a thousand gathered to see Clitheroe beaten by five goals to three in what was not only the last game but also the first Sunday game at the stadium. Nelson then moved to their current Victoria Park ground on Lomeshaye Holme for the start of the 1971–72 season.
