James Blake (musician)
James Blake Litherland (born 26 September 1988) is an English singer, songwriter, and record producer. He first gained recognition following the release of three extended plays—''The Bells Sketch'', ''CMYK (EP), CMYK'' and ''Klavierwerke (EP), Klavierwerke''—in 2010. He signed with A&M Records to release his James Blake (album), self-titled debut album (2011) the following year, which was met with critical praise and peaked within the top ten of the UK Albums Chart. James Litherland (born 6 September 1949) is an English singer and guitarist best known as a founding member of the progressive rock band Colosseum. He was born in Salford, Lancashire, England. Johnny Reed McKinzie Jr. (born March 31, 1985), better known by his stage name Jay Rock, is an American rapper from Los Angeles, California. Rock signed with local independent label Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) in 2005. He secured a major label joint venture deal with Warner Bros. Records and Asylum Records to release his 2008 debut single, " All My Life (In the Ghetto)" (featuring Lil Wayne and will.i.am). Failing to chart, the mergers fell through and Rock departed from both of the latter labels shortly after. He then signed with Missouri rapper Tech N9ne's label Strange Music in a joint venture deal with TDE in 2011. "King's Dead" is a song by American rappers Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, and Future with English singer James Blake, from the soundtrack album of the Marvel Studios superhero film ''Black Panther'' and Jay Rock's third studio album '' Redemption''. The version featured on ''Redemption'' did not feature Lamar and Blake and contains multiple differences than the original one. ''Klavierwerke'' is the third solo EP by English musician James Blake, who plays all the instruments and produced the record. It was released on R&S Records on 27 September 2010. The word "Klavierwerke" is German for "piano works", as the album is mostly built on piano. Composition James Blake changed his style on the EP from gospel and R&B influenced dubstep on ''CMYK'' to more piano-based music. According to Blake, the EP is "more personal" than ''CMYK'', and its lyrics are more focused on emotion. The EP has been described as "sadder and more intimate" than his previous releases, and as similar to Mount Kimbie's songs. The title track features some vocal static due to it being recorded on a laptop microphone. The static contrasts with the clear hand claps and bass notes. The next track, "Tell Her Safe" has Blake singing over percussion, with additional light pops and clicks, and a muffled refrain.
