James Berkeley (bishop)
James Berkeley (died 1327) was Bishop of Exeter for a period of three months in 1327, a term of office cut short by his death. Origins Berkeley was a younger son of Thomas de Berkeley, 1st Baron Berkeley (1245-1321), ''The Wise'', feudal baron of Berkeley of Berkeley Castle in Gloucestershire, by his wife Joan de Ferrers, a daughter of William de Ferrers, 5th Earl of Derby by his wife Margaret de Quincy, a daughter of Roger de Quincy, 2nd Earl of Winchester. Career Berkeley was elected bishop on 5 December 1326 and was consecrated on 22 March 1327. Death Berkeley died on 24 June 1327,Fryde, et al. ''Handbook of British Chronology'' p. 246 having been murdered and having suffered the destruction and despoliation of his manors, according to the account by his successor John de Grandisson. James Berkeley, 1st Baron Berkeley
James Berkeley, 1st Baron Berkeley (c. 1394 – 22 October 1463), also known as "James the Just", was an English Peerage, peer. Berkeley was the son of Sir James de Berkeley (d. 1405) and his wife Elizabeth (née Bluet) and by 1410 accepted as heir male to his uncle Thomas de Berkeley, 5th Baron Berkeley. He was involved in a bitter feud with his cousin Elizabeth, daughter of the fifth Baron Berkeley and wife of Richard de Beauchamp, 13th Earl of Warwick over the inheritance of the Berkeley estate. Life The Berkeley estate had been Fee tail, entailed in 1349, which meant that on the death of his uncle in 1417 it should have descended to James as heir male, but Thomas had apparently not made this clear to the Beauchamps. The Earl and Countess of Warwick were in Gloucestershire, when her father died, while James was in Dorset. James Berkeley, 3rd Earl Of Berkeley
Vice-Admiral James Berkeley, 3rd Earl of Berkeley ( – 17 August 1736) was an English Royal Navy officer and peer who served as First Lord of the Admiralty from 1717 to 1727. The son of Charles Berkeley, 2nd Earl of Berkeley, he was known by the courtesy title of Viscount Dursley prior to succeeding as Earl of Berkeley in 1710. Viscount Dursley received his commission as a lieutenant in the Royal Navy on 10 March 1699 and was promoted to captain on 2 April 1701. He was also a Member of Parliament (MP) for Gloucester 1701–1702. He took part in the battle off Málaga under Admiral Rooke, commanding HMS ''Boyne''. He was summoned to Parliament by writ of acceleration as Baron Berkeley on 5 March 1705, and continued to rise in the Navy. Dursley commanded HMS ''St George'' in 1706, and narrowly escaped the Scilly naval disaster in which Sir Cloudesley Shovell in HMS ''Association'' was lost on 23 October 1707. James Barkley is an artist, illustrator, and professor from Pleasantville, New York. He has received a wide range of commissions across many areas; including children's books, book covers, classic books, advertising, television, newspapers, and magazines, and he has created portraits of many famous personalities and political figures. Career Barkley is a professor at the Parsons School of Design and the University of Bridgeport. He has lectured at the Pratt Institute, Marymount College, the School of Visual Arts, and the Society of Illustrators, where he has also served as a trustee.
