Jambo is a card game designed by Rüdiger Dorn and published in 2004 by Kosmos in German and by Rio Grande Games in English. In the game, players are African traders before colonisation buying and selling market wares. The game was nominated for the 2005 Spiel des Jahres award and also placed 8th for the Deutscher Spiele Preis award. Linguistically Specifically, Jambo is a Swahili language word that belongs to noun classes 5-6 for "collectives". The Spiel des Jahres (, 'Game of the Year') is an award for board and card games, created in 1978 with the purpose of rewarding family-friendly game design, and promoting excellent games in the German market. Rüdiger Dorn (born 1969) is a German-style board game designer who is married and has three children. He lives in Pfofeld near Nuremberg.
