Jamaica At The 2019 Pan American Games
Jamaica competed in the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru from July 26 to August 11, 2019. The Jamaica Olympic Association's goal was to the send the most athletes, compete in the most sports and win the most medals at any one appearance by the country. The Jamaican team consisted of 124 athletes (69 men and 55 women) competing in 17 sports. During the 2019 Pan American Games opening ceremony, opening ceremony of the games, squash player Christopher Binnie carried the flag of the country as part of the 2019 Pan American Games Parade of Nations, parade of nations. Jamaica finished the games with a record 19 medals won, surpassing the previous high of 14 won in 1959 Pan American Games, 1959. Jamaica Olympic Association (IOC code: JAM) is the National Olympic Committee representing Jamaica. It is also the body responsible for Jamaica's representation at the Olympic Games. History The Jamaica Olympic Association was founded in 1936 and recognised by the International Olympic Committee in the same year. Member federations The Jamaican National Federations are the organizations that coordinate all aspects of their individual sports. Cycling At The 2019 Pan American Games
Cycling competitions at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru were held at five venues across Lima. The Circuito BMX held the BMX racing competitions, the Pista de skateboarding held the freestyle BMX events. Morro Solar staged the mountain biking competitions, and the Circuito San Miguel staged the road competitions. Finally the velodrome staged the track cycling competitions. The BMX competitions started on August 7 and finished on the 11th (the last of the games), while mountain biking started on the 28th of July. Road cycling competitions started on the 7th and 10th of August. Track cycling competitions were held between August 1st and 4th. Fedrick Dacres
Fedrick Dacres (born 28 February 1994) is a Jamaican discus thrower. He began his throwing career as a student at Calabar High School in Jamaica along with other accomplished throwers such as Chad Wright and Traves Smikle, under the guidance of former Calabar athlete coach Julian Robinson. He won a gold medal at the 2011 World Youth Championships in Athletics, becoming the first Jamaican discus thrower ever to do so. He went on to win a gold medal at the 2012 World Junior Championships in Athletics, also becoming the first Jamaican discus thrower ever to do so. Dacres participated in the boys' discus throw at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics. He has qualified to represent Jamaica at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Wrestling At The 2019 Pan American Games
Wrestling competitions at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima were held between August 7 and 10, 2019 at the Miguel Grau Coliseum in the Villa Deportiva Regional del Callao cluster. The competition is split into two disciplines, Freestyle and Greco-Roman which were further divided into different weight categories. Men competed in both disciplines whereas women only took part in the freestyle events, with 18 gold medals awarded (12 for men and six for women). Tennis competitions at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru are scheduled to be held from July 29 to August 4. The competitions will take place at the Club Lawn Tennis de La Exposición. A total of 80 athletes (48 men and 32 women) are scheduled to compete in five events: singles and doubles for each gender and a mixed doubles event. Taekwondo competitions at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru were held between July 26 to 29, 2019 at the Polideportivo Villa El Salvador, which also hosted the volleyball competitions. 12 medal events were contested.
