Jake Gelof
Jake Gelof (born February 25, 2002) is an American college baseball third baseman for the Virginia Cavaliers. Amateur career Gelof grew up in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and initially attended Cape Henlopen High School. He transferred to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida after his sophomore season. Gelof initially committed to play college baseball at William & Mary, but later flipped his commitment to Virginia. Gelof played summer collegiate baseball after graduating high school for the Brockton Rox of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League and hit for a .281 average with 19 RBIs. Gelof became a starter at first base during his freshman season and batted .252 with 4 home runs and 15 RBIs. All four of his home runs were hit in postseason play. A third baseman, abbreviated 3B, is the player in baseball or softball whose responsibility is to defend the area nearest to third base — the third of four bases a baserunner must touch in succession to score a run. Northwoods League
The Northwoods League is a collegiate summer baseball wooden bat league. All players in the league must have NCAA eligibility remaining in order to participate. The league is amateur, and players are not paid, so as to maintain their college eligibility. Graduated senior pitchers are also eligible to play in the Northwoods League. Each team may have four of these players at a time. Teams play 72 games scheduled from late May to mid-August. The season itself is broken into two halves, with the winners of each half in each of the four sub-divisions playing against each other to determine a sub-divisional champion in a best-of-three series. United States National Baseball Team
The United States national baseball team represents the United States in international-level baseball competitions. The team is currently ranked 5th in the world by the World Baseball Softball Confederation. Team USA won the Olympic baseball tournament in 2000, and the World Baseball Classic (WBC) in 2017. The United States was an inaugural member of the World Baseball Classic, making its debut in the first edition. In their first three appearances in the WBC, the best finish for the Americans was fourth place in 2009. In 2017, the team won the WBC title for the first time. The Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL or Cape League) is a collegiate summer baseball wooden bat league located on Cape Cod in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. One of the nation's premier collegiate summer leagues, the league boasts over one thousand former players who have gone on to play in the major leagues. Harwich Mariners
The Harwich Mariners are a collegiate summer baseball team based in Harwich, Massachusetts. The team is a member of the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL) and plays in the league's East Division. The Mariners play their home games at Whitehouse Field in the historic village of Harwich Center. Harwich has won two CCBL championships in the 21st century, most recently in 2011 by defeating the Falmouth Commodores two games to none to win the best of three championship series.
