Jake Ewald
Jacob Starnes Ewald (born February 28, 1993) is an American musician. He is best known as a founding member, co-lead vocalist, and guitarist of the emo band Modern Baseball. He is also the lead vocalist and guitarist of the folk-rock band Slaughter Beach, Dog, a solo project he began while still active in Modern Baseball. In addition to his performance work, Ewald has contributed to various recordings as a producer and audio engineer. Music career Modern Baseball Ewald, along with Bren Lukens, co-founded the band Modern Baseball in 2011. The duo were encouraged to start writing music together by Ewald's twin sister. Together they had released ''The Nameless Ranger'' that same year. In 2012, Lukens and Ewald began recording their debut album. There, they had met Ian Farmer, who produced the album. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand in the early to mid-1980s. Although the term was originally used to describe rock music released through independent record labels, by the 1990s it became more widely associated with the music such bands produced. Folk Rock
Folk rock is a fusion genre of rock music with heavy influences from pop, English and American folk music. It arose in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom in the mid-1960s. Alternative Rock
Alternative rock (also known as alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a category of rock music that evolved from the independent music underground of the 1970s. Alternative rock acts achieved mainstream success in the 1990s with the likes of the grunge subgenre in the United States, and the Britpop and shoegaze subgenres in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Slaughter Beach, Dog is an indie rock band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, formed by former Modern Baseball co-lead vocalist Jake Ewald in 2014. Initially starting as one of Ewald's solo projects during his tenure with Modern Baseball, the group was realized after Modern Baseball went on indefinite hiatus. Modern Baseball (sometimes abbreviated as MoBo) was an American emo band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, consisting of Bren Lukens, Jake Ewald, Sean Huber, and Ian Farmer. The band formed in 2012 at Drexel University and released their first album, ''Sports'', on Lame-O Records that same year. ''Sports'' is the debut studio album by American emo band Modern Baseball released on November 27, 2012. Background ''Sports'' was written while the band members were attending college. Bassist Ian Farmer (who had not yet joined the band) and guitarist Jake Ewald were studying audio engineering at Drexel University and were able to record the album for free as their "first real project". The band outsourced the album to have it mixed due to their lack of comfort or experience in that stage of the production process. The band had previously released the split EP ''Couples Therapy'' with fellow Philadelphia-based emo band Marietta and embarked on a short tour during the summer of 2012. Farmer later joined the band himself. Looking back on recording, Ewald said "it was mostly our singer Bren doing most of the legwork 'cos we didn't have a real band yet". Lame-O Records is an independent record label based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Founded by Eric Osman to release Modern Baseball's ''Sports'', the label has been hailed as one of Philadelphia's best indie labels. History Lame-O Records was founded in 2012 by Eric Osman, manager of the band Modern Baseball, to release the band's debut LP ''Sports''. Osman funded the 300-copy pressing with savings earned working at coffee shops. Though ''Sports'' earned the label no profit, it quickly sold out and has subsequently been repressed four times. The label was not originally supposed to continue beyond ''Sports'', but Osman decided to take advantage of the opportunities afforded by the success of the first album. Run for Cover Records is an American independent record label based in Boston, Massachusetts. Founded in 2004 by Jeff Casazza at the age of 17 with a $1,000 loan, the label functioned as a small one-person bedroom operation in Brighton, until Casazza graduated from Suffolk University in 2010.
