Jakarta–Surabaya Line
The Jakarta-Surabaya line (the North line; Indonesian: ''Lintas Utara'') is one of two rail lines on the island of Java that connect Jakarta and Surabaya. The line follows the route of the North Coast Road. The executive-class ''Argo Bromo Anggrek'' express train provides a limited-stop service on the line. In September 2019, Indonesia signed a project agreement with Japan for the medium-speed train project to link Jakarta and Surabaya. The project, which will incorporate some existing tracks, is expected to double the current speed of the existing train to 160kph. It will slash travel time between the two cities from nine hours to five and a half hours. It is estimated that the project will cost IDR60tn (US$4.3bn), which will be funded by Japanese loans. However, the project was cancelled in July 2023 due to the lack of progress. North Coast Road (Java)
The North Coast Road () is a road, that connects Cilegon and Banyuwangi along the northern coast of Java, particularly between Jakarta and Surabaya. Most of Java's north coast road was built during the reign of governor-general Herman Willem Daendels (1808–1811) and was originally known as the Great Post Road ( ). History of construction The Great Post Road was a military road which was built under the order of King Lodewijk Napoleon who ruled the Kingdom of Holland at that time. The road was intended to ease military support, e.g. transfer of soldiers, in order to defend Java from a possible British invasion. Argo Bromo Anggrek
''Argo Bromo Anggrek'' is the name of Executive and Compartment train jointly operated by Kereta Api Indonesia between Surabaya and Jakarta in Indonesia. The train covers in 7 hours and 45 minutes along Java's north coast, stopping at Semarang Tawang and Cirebon. It is one of the best known trains in Indonesia. Etymology The name ''Argo Bromo'' was derived from the volcano Bromo in East Java. The term ''anggrek'' () was added to differentiate the train from its predecessor.
