Jaja Wachuku
Jaja Anucha Ndubuisi Wachuku (1 January 1918 – 7 November 1996) was a Pan-Africanist and a Nigerian politician, statesman, lawyer, politician, diplomat and humanitarian. He was the first Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria, Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives; as well as the first Nigerian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations. Also, Wachuku was the first Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs (Nigeria), Minister for Foreign Affairs. Notably, Wachuku was a Royal family, Royal Prince of Ngwaland, "descendant of 20 generations of African Eze, chiefs in the Igbo country of Eastern Nigeria". Wachuku, who was "widely respected" as Foreign Affairs Minister of Nigeria intervened with the South African government and helped save Nelson Mandela and others from the death penalty at the 1963–64 Rivonia Trial. Nigeria And The United Nations
Nigeria is a member of the United Nations. Nigeria did not become independent from the United Kingdom until 1960, while the United Nations had already been established by the Declaration by United Nations in 1942. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande is the permanent representative of Nigeria. In 2013, Nigeria contributed the fifth largest number of Peacekeeping, peacekeepers to United Nations peacekeeping , United Nations peacekeeping operations. Nigeria has recently served a two-year term from 2014–2015 as a temporary member of the United Nations Security Council. The United Nations helped negotiate adjusting the border of Nigeria and Cameroon resulting in the Greentree Agreement in 2006.
