Jadu Bhatta (film)
Jadu Bhatta also known as Jadubhatta, is a 1954 Bengali-language Indian musical film directed by Niren Lahiri. Its story and screenplay were written by Nitai Bhattacharya. It stars Basanta Chowdhury in the title role and features Chhabi Biswas, Ajit Prakash, and Nitish Mukherjee in supporting roles. The film's music was composed by Jnan Prakash Ghosh. The film was released on 16 November 1954. It won the Certificate of Merit for Best Bengali Language Feature Film at the 2nd National Film Awards . Niren Lahiri
Niren Lahiri or Nirendranath Lahiri (17 July 1908 – 2 December 1972) was a Bengali and Hindi film director. He received 9th Annual BFJA Awards in 1946 and 2nd National Film Awards in 1955. Career Lahiri was born in Kolkata, British India in 1907. His father's name was Jitendra Nath Lahiri. Initially he started his career as an actor in Pramathesh Barua’s studio. He worked with Mr. Barua at New Theatres. He acted in ''Abhinav'' in 1940 directed by Debaki Bose. Lahiri was the music director of ''Ashiana'', ''Tarubala'' and '' Annapurnar Mandir'' in 1936. In 1940 he made his directional debut in the film ''Byabodhan''. He became popular after directing ''Bhabhi Kaal'' in 1945. He directed about 27 films including Bengali and Hindi cinema. Lahiri died in 1972. The National Film Award for Best Bengali Feature Film is one of the National Film Awards presented annually by the National Film Development Corporation of India. It is one of several awards presented for feature films and awarded with Rajat Kamal (Silver Lotus). Since the 70th National Film Awards, the name was changed to "Best Bengali Feature Film". The 2nd National Film Awards, then known as State Awards for Films, presented by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, India to felicitate the best of Indian Cinema released in the year 1954. Ceremony took place at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on 21 December 1955 and awards were given by then President of India, Rajendra Prasad. Tulsi Chakraborty (also Tulsi Chakrabarti; 3 March 1899 – 11 December 1961) was an Indian actor and comedian who worked in Bengali cinema in the 1940s and 50s. Basanta Chowdhury
Basanta Choudhury also known as Basanta Chowdhury (5 May 1928 – 20 June 2000), was an Indian actor in Bengali and Hindi films. He worked with directors Asit Sen, Rajen Tarafdar, Ajay Kar and Bijay Bose, often in leading roles. He is a former Sheriff of Kolkata. Choudhury's collection of Kashmiri and Persian shawls were enviable. Director Satyajit Ray admired those collections and used for his masterpieces. Jadunath Bhattacharya (also known as Jadu Bhatta) (1840 – 4 April 1883) was an Indian musician and composer of the 19th century Indian classical music, mainly of the Bishnupur gharana. In fact, he was, in the words of the poet, " a master of the hand of God".
