Jacques Vriens
Jacques Vriens (born 26 March 1946) is a Dutch children's author and playwright. He is known for his 1999 book ''Achtste-groepers huilen niet'', which was twice adapted into a film. Vriens formerly worked as a schoolteacher and has written for the show ''Tien torens diep''. In 2001 he was appointed to the Order of the Netherlands Lion by Queen Beatrix. s-Hertogenbosch (), colloquially known as Den Bosch (), is a city and municipality in the Netherlands with a population of 157,486. It is the capital of the province of North Brabant and its fourth largest by population. The city is south of the Maas river and near the Waal; it is to the north east of the city of Tilburg, north west of Eindhoven, south west of Nijmegen, and a longer distance south of Utrecht and south east of Dordrecht. ''Achtste-groepers huilen niet'' (English: ''Sixth Graders Don't Cry'', also known as ''Kule Kidz Gråter Ikke'', ''Cool Kids Don't Cry'') is a 1999 Dutch children's book by Jacques Vriens. The book was first published in September 1999 as ''Achtste-groepers huilen niet'' and has since been translated into Norwegian and German. Synopsis Akkie is a happy-go-lucky sixth grader that's obsessed with soccer, her friends, and the upcoming school trip. She's known for being tough and always up for a challenge, so when Akkie is diagnosed with leukemia she refuses to let it slow her down. Her classmates are in shock, but Akkie refuses to allow them to treat her as if she were broken. As time passes it becomes clear that her illness is very far progressed and it becomes harder for Akkie to do everything she wants to do in the time she has left. Order Of The Netherlands Lion
The Order of the Netherlands Lion, also known as the Order of the Lion of the Netherlands ( nl, De Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw, french: L'Ordre du Lion Néerlandais) is a Dutch order of chivalry founded by King William I of the Netherlands on 29 September 1815. The Order of the Netherlands Lion was until recently awarded to eminent individuals from all walks of life, including generals, ministers of the crown, mayors of large towns, professors and leading scientists, industrialists, high-ranking civil servants, presiding judges and renowned artists. Since 1980 the Order has been primarily used to recognise merit in the arts, science, sport and literature; others are awarded the Order of Orange-Nassau. Queen Beatrix
Beatrix (Beatrix Wilhelmina Armgard, ; born 31 January 1938) is a member of the Dutch royal house who reigned as Queen of the Netherlands from 1980 until her abdication in 2013. Beatrix is the eldest daughter of Queen Juliana and her husband, Prince Bernhard of Lippe-Biesterfeld. Upon her mother's accession in 1948, she became heir presumptive. Beatrix attended a public primary school in Canada during World War II, and then finished her primary and secondary education in the Netherlands in the post-war period. In 1961, she received her law degree from Leiden University. In 1966, Beatrix married Claus von Amsberg, a German diplomat, with whom she had three children. ''Secrets of War'' ( nl, Oorlogsgeheimen) is a 2014 Dutch drama film by director Dennis Bots. The story is based on the 2007 novel ''Oorlogsgeheimen'' by Jacques Vriens. The leading roles are played by Pippa Allen, Maas Bronkhuyzen, and Joes Brauers. The story is set during World War II. The film won the Rembrandt award for best Dutch youth film of 2015. In the same year, the film won the prize for best feature film at the Tromsø Children's Film Festival in Norway.
