Jacques Blaseus
Jacques Blaseus (c.1540–1618) was successively bishop of Namur and bishop of Saint-Omer in the Spanish Netherlands. Life Jacques de Blaese, born in Bruges around 1540, came from a poor family and was educated at a charity school in Bruges until his abilities brought him to the attention of generous patrons, who provided him with the means for an education in the humanities. As a youth he joined the Franciscans in Douai, eventually serving as provincial superior of the order in the Low Countries. He was named bishop of Namur by letters patent of Philip II of Spain dated 11 May 1596. The nomination was confirmed by Pope Clement VIII in 1597, and Blaseus was consecrated bishop by the papal nuncio, Ottavio Mirto Frangipani, on 23 November. Bishop Of Saint-Omer
The former French Catholic diocese of Saint-Omer existed from 1559 until the French Revolution. Its see at Saint-Omer, in the modern department of Pas-de-Calais, was created as a reaction to the destruction of the see of Thérouanne, by military action in the wars of the Emperor Charles V. It then became a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Cambrai in 1559. By the Concordat of 1801, the diocese of Saint-Omer was united with the diocese of Arras and the diocese of Boulogne, to form an enlarged diocese of Arras. François Buisseret
François Buisseret (1549–1615) was a clergyman from the Habsburg Netherlands who became bishop of Namur and archbishop of Cambrai. Life Buisseret was born in Mons in September 1549. Jean Dave
Jean Dave (1531–1595) was a prelate in the Habsburg Netherlands who briefly served as the third bishop of Namur. Life Dave was born in Namur. He took degrees in theology and canon law, and served as ecclesiastical councillor on the provincial council of Namur. E. H. J. Rutger Velpius
Rutger Velpius (around 1540–1614/15) was a 16th- and 17th-century printer and bookseller. He was the first printer in the city of Mons, and later became printer to the court in Brussels. His career coincided closely with the first decades of the Dutch Revolt Life Leuven Velpius became a bookseller in Leuven in 1564, and in 1565 was licensed as a "sworn bookseller" to the University of Leuven. Around 1567 he married Catherine Waen, daughter of the Scottish expatriate bookseller John Waen.
