Jacques-Louis Lions (; 2 May 1928 – 17 May 2001) was a French mathematician who made contributions to the theory of partial differential equations and to stochastic control, among other areas. Grasse (; Provençal dialect, Provençal in classical norm or in Mistralian norm ; traditional ) is the only Subprefectures in France, subprefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes Departments of France, department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur Regions of France, region on the French Riviera. John Von Neumann Prize
The John von Neumann Prize (until 2019 named John von Neumann Lecture Prize) was funded in 1959 with support from IBM and other industry corporations, and began being awarded in 1960 for "outstanding and distinguished contributions to the field of applied mathematical sciences and for the effective communication of these ideas to the community". It is considered the highest honor bestowed by the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). The recipient receives a monetary award and presents a survey lecture at the SIAM Annual Meeting. Selection process Anybody is able to nominate a mathematician for the prize. Nominations are reviewed by a selection committee, consisting of members of SIAM who serve two-year appointments. Viscoplasticity is a theory in continuum mechanics that describes the rate-dependent inelastic behavior of solids. Rate-dependence in this context means that the deformation (mechanics), deformation of the material depends on the rate at which Structural load, loads are applied. In mathematics, the Aubin–Lions lemma (or theorem) is the result in the theory of Sobolev spaces of Banach space-valued functions, which provides a compactness criterion that is useful in the study of nonlinear evolutionary partial differential equations. Typically, to prove the existence of solutions one first constructs approximate solutions (for example, by a Galerkin method or by mollification of the equation), then uses the compactness lemma to show that there is a convergent subsequence of approximate solutions whose limit is a solution.
