Jacqueline Gourault
Jacqueline Gourault (; née Doliveux, born 20 November 1950) is a French politician who served as Minister of Territorial Cohesion and Relations with Local Authorities in the governments of successive Prime Ministers Édouard Philippe and Jean Castex from 2018 to 2022. A member of the Democratic Movement (MoDem), she previously served as Minister attached to the Minister of the Interior from 2017 to 2018. In 2022, she was appointed to the Constitutional Council by President Emmanuel Macron. Early life and education Born Jacqueline Doliveux, she is the daughter of a livestock dealer in Montoire-sur-le-Loir, Martial. His wife Madeleine worked with him. Constitutional Council (France)
The Constitutional Council (, ) is the highest constitutional authority in France. It was established by the Constitution of France, Constitution of the Fifth Republic on 4 October 1958 to ensure that constitutional principles and rules are upheld. It is housed in the Palais-Royal in Paris. Its main activity is to rule on whether proposed statutes conform with the Constitution, after they have been voted by French Parliament, Parliament and before they are signed into law by the President of France, president of the republic (''a priori'' review), or passed by the government as a decree, which has law status in many domains, a right granted to the government under delegation of Parliament. Democratic Movement (France)
The Democratic Movement (, ; MoDem ) is a centre to centre-right political party in France, whose main ideological trends are liberalism and Christian democracy, and that is characterised by a strong pro-Europeanist stance. MoDem was established by François Bayrou to succeed the Union for French Democracy (UDF) and contest the 2007 legislative election, after his strong showing in the 2007 presidential election. Initially named the Democratic Party (''Parti démocrate''), the party was renamed "Democratic Movement", because there was already a small Democratic Party in France. Substitute (elections)
A substitute is a political candidate who is not directly elected, but who succeeds a politician holding an elected office after that person ceases to hold the office due to, for example, resignation or death. This system can be used to fill casual vacancies instead of holding by-elections or special elections to fill the vacant office. Jack Mathieu Émile Lang (; born 2 September 1939) is a French politician. A member of the Socialist Party (France), Socialist Party, he served as Ministry of Culture (France), Minister of Culture from 1981 to 1986 and again from 1988 to 1993, as well as Ministry of National Education (France), Minister of National Education from 1992 to 1993 and 2000 to 2002. He was also Mayor (France), Mayor of Blois from 1989 until his resignation in 2000. 1993 French Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in France on 21 and 28 March 1993, to elect the tenth National Assembly of the Fifth Republic. Since 1988, President François Mitterrand and his Socialist cabinets had relied on a relative parliamentary majority. In an attempt to avoid having to work with the Communists, Prime Minister Michel Rocard tried to gain support from the UDF by appointing four UDF ministers. After the UDF withdrew its support for the government in 1991, Rocard and the UDF ministers resigned. The UDF then became allied with the Gaullist Rally for the Republic (RPR). In France, a municipal council (French language, French: ''conseil municipal'', ) is an elected body of the Communes of France, commune responsible for "executing, in its deliberations, the business of the town" (translated). The council must meet at least once a Calendar year#Quarters, quarter, or at a request from at least one third of its members, but usually meets once a month. The council manages the smallest French territorial community with legal and financial autonomy, the commune.
