Jack Wrout
John Everett Wrout (8 October 1911 – 16 June 1981) was an Australian rules footballer who played in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Herbert Wrout (1884-1950), and May Victoria Wrout (1888-1953), née Hay, John Everett Wrout was born at West Melbourne, Victoria on 8 October 1911. He married Nancy Jean Ryan (1916-2008), the sister of Reg Ryan, in 1935. They had two children: John, and Nancy May (1937-), later Mrs. Vincent Patrick Heffernan. Education He was educated at St Joseph's Christian Brothers' College, North Melbourne. Allan William Thomas "Alan" Crawford (21 January 1916 – 28 March 1988) was an Australian rules footballer who played with North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Career Crawford, a former Carlton seconds player, had a stop-start career in the VFL, starting with a stint from 1936 to 1938. During the early war years he played for South Adelaide, then went back to North Melbourne in 1943. A follower, Crawford won North Melbourne's best and fairest award in 1944. Peter Hall (politician)
Peter Ronald Hall (born 27 May 1952) is an Australian retired politician. He was a National member of the Victorian Legislative Council from 1988 to 2014, representing Gippsland Province (1988–2006) and the Eastern Victoria Region (2006–2014). Early life and education Hall was born and raised in Castlemaine, Victoria. He graduated from Castlemaine High School in 1969 and moved to Melbourne to attend university. He graduated from Monash University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts and completed a Diploma of Education the following year. Football career He showed promise as an Australian rules football player as a young person, being the best and fairest for the Castlemaine Football Club in 1969, at only 17 years of age. While studying teaching at Monash University in Melbourne, Hall made his debut for the Carlton Football Club in what was then the Victorian Football League (now named the Australian Football League). 1944 VFL Season
The 1944 VFL season was the 48th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. All twelve of the league's clubs competed, with returning after two years in recess due to wartime travel restrictions. The season ran from 6 May until 30 September, and comprised an 18-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the Fitzroy Football Club for the eighth and final time in its history, after it defeated by 15 points in the VFL Grand Final. Influence of World War II The wartime travel restrictions that had forced Geelong into recess the previous two years were relaxed, and Geelong rejoined the competition.
