Jack Watson (14 May 1915 – 4 July 1999) was an English actor who appeared in many British films and television dramas from the 1950s onwards. Early life Watson was born in Thorney, Cambridgeshire. He was the son of a Gaiety Girl, Barbara Hughes, and a music hall comedian, Nosmo King. Watson often appeared on stage with his father as straight man, where he was known simply as Hubert. Military service During the Second World War Watson was a physical training instructor in the Royal Navy, and his physique was much in evidence in many of his subsequent screen roles. Career During the war Watson was resident compère of the BBC radio comedy ''The Navy Mixture''. After the war, his talent as an impersonator resulted in his becoming a regular on BBC radio programmes such as '' Take it from Here'', ''Hancock's Half Hour'' and '' The Clitheroe Kid''. Major John Bernard Robert Watson MC (14 January 1917 – 12 April 2011) was a British Army officer who was awarded a Military Cross for gallantry whilst serving with 13 Parachute Battalion in the Ardennes during the Second World War. Military career John Watson was born in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, on 14 January 1917. He enlisted in the British Army in 1939 during World War II and served, initially, with the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry and the South Lancashire Regiment. He served with the 2/4th Battalion, South Lancashires which in 1943 was converted into the 13th (Lancashire) Parachute Battalion. Watson was a platoon commander on D-Day, 6 June 1944 and parachuted into Normandy and took part in the liberation of Ranville. He served in the Ardennes as a company commander, and his company on 3 January 1945 led the assault into the village of Bure, Belgium. John Martin Watson (17 April 1921 – 10 March 2012) was an English cricketer. Watson was a left-handed batsman who bowled right-arm off break. He was born at High Spen, County Durham, and was educated at Blackhall Mill Elementary School. Watson made his debut for Durham against Northumberland in the 1946 Minor Counties Championship. He played Minor counties cricket for Durham in 1946 and 1947, before joining Northumberland in 1949. He played Minor counties cricket for Northumberland from 1949 to 1955, making 67 Minor Counties Championship appearances for Northumberland. He rejoined Durham for the 1956 season, playing Minor counties cricket for the county until 1972, making a total of 119 Minor Counties Championship appearances, which also included those played in his first spell with Durham. John S. Watson (September 1892 – 1957) was an English professional footballer who played in the Football League for Birmingham. Watson was born in Bulwell, Nottinghamshire. Before the First World War, he was on the books of Manchester City and Oldham Athletic without appearing in the League for either club. After the war, he played non-league football for Bloxwich Strollers before joining Birmingham in July 1919. A right back, Watson made his debut in the Second Division on 11 October 1919, deputising for Billy Ball in a home game against Blackpool which resulted in a 4–2 win. John Fox Watson (31 December 1917 – 15 April 1976) was a Scottish football player, believed to be the only Scottish male player in Real Madrid's history. Biography Watson was born in Hamilton during Hogmanay, at the end of 1917. Watson started his career at Douglas Water Thistle Juniors before signing with English side Bury for whom he made his Football League debut in February 1939, ahead of World War II. After the war, he played with Fulham until 1948. In 1948, Watson joined Englishman Mike Keeping, a fellow former Fulham player, at Spanish giants Real Madrid as a player.
