Jack Watson (Scottish Footballer)
John George Watson (3 December 1911 – 9 September 1944) was a Scottish professional footballer who played as a centre half or inside forward in the English Football League for Tranmere Rovers. Life and career John George Watson was born on 3 December 1911 in Edinburgh, Scotland, to J. Elder Watson, a Baptist minister, and his wife. The family moved home several times following Rev. Watson's calling, from Bellshill to Cowdenbeath in 1921, then to Dunoon in 1924, and to Birkenhead, England, in 1930. Watson played football as an inside left for junior club Dunoon Milton Rovers before signing for his new home-town club, Tranmere Rovers, in 1930. He was captain of Tranmere's reserve team in the 1933–34 season, and came into the first team at centre half for the Welsh Cup seventh-round replay against Newport County. Tranmere Rovers Football Club is a professional association football club based in Birkenhead, Merseyside, England. The team compete in , the fourth tier of the English football league system. Founded in 1884 as Belmont Football Club, they adopted their current name in 1885. The Lancashire Combination was a football league founded in the North West of England in 1891–92. It absorbed the Lancashire League in 1903. Stockport County
Stockport County Football Club are a professional football club in Stockport, England, who compete in EFL League Two, the fourth tier of the English football league system. Formed in 1883 as Heaton Norris Rovers, they were renamed Stockport County in 1890 after the County Borough of Stockport. The team have played in blue and white kits since 1914; their original colours were red and white. The club are nicknamed "The Hatters" after the town's former hat-making industry. The Third Division North of the Football League was a tier in the English football league system from 1921 to 1958. It ran in parallel with the Third Division South with clubs elected to the League or relegated from a higher division allocated to one or the other according to geographical position. Some clubs in the English Midlands shuttled between the Third Division North and the Third Division South according to the composition of the two leagues in any one season. The Third Division South had been created in 1921 from the Third Division formed the previous year made up of 22 teams drawn mostly from the Southern League. It was decided that this gave the Football League overall too much of a southern bias, so the Third Division North was created in 1921–22 to redress the balance.
