Jack Wallens
John Noel Stanley Wallens (25 December 1901 – 25 July 1962) was an English international rugby union player. Wallens was born in Birkenhead and educated at Merchant Taylors' School, Crosby, where he played stand-off. After joining Waterloo "A", Wallens switched to fullback and had several seasons as an understudy before himself as Waterloo's premier fullback in 1925-26. He made his Lancashire debut the following season. In 1927, Wallens was capped for England in their final Five Nations fixture against France in Paris, with the incumbent fullback Kenneth Sellar unavailable to make the trip. He also took part in that year's tour of Argentina with the British Lions and featured in three of their four matches against the Pumas. Wallens emigrated to Australia in 1929 to take up a new position with his employer the Cunard Steamship Company. Birkenhead
Birkenhead () is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral, Merseyside, England. The town is on the Wirral Peninsula, along the west bank of the River Mersey, opposite Liverpool. It lies within the Historic counties of England, historic county boundaries of Cheshire, and became part of Merseyside in 1974. At the 2021 United Kingdom census, 2021 census, the built up area as defined by the Office for National Statistics had a population of 109,835. Birkenhead Priory and the Mersey Ferry were established in the 12th century. The Lions generally select international players, but they can pick uncapped players available to any one of the four unions. Despite the Lions team name only being used officially since 1950, tours since 1910 by combined teams have been undertaken with the support of the four home unions, and these along with other tours since 1888 by combined teams have been recognised retrospectively as Lions tours.
