John George Thompson (active 1919–1927) was an English professional footballer who made 120 Football League appearances playing as a right back for Aston Villa and Brighton & Hove Albion. Life and career Thompson was born in Cramlington, Northumberland. He played football for Ashington of the North-Eastern League before signing for Aston Villa in November 1919 for a fee reported as £300. He went straight into their team for the Football League First Division match against West Bromwich Albion: asked if he was nervous, he is reported to have replied "Why no, I fought against the Germans!" He made 17 appearances in what remained of the season, but played only 11 times in 1920–21 after losing his place to Tommy Smart. Thompson signed for Brighton & Hove Albion of the Third Division South in August 1921. Cecil Lewis "Young Jack" Thompson (August 17, 1904 – April 11, 1946) was an American boxer who twice held the Undisputed World Welterweight Championship. He was the first African American to gain the World Welterweight Championship. Born Cecil Lewis Thompson, his name was changed when he decided to become a professional fighter. His father, who was training him, did not think "Cecil" was a fighter's name, so he chose "Jack." To avoid confusion with another fighter named "Jack Thompson," his father decided to use the ring name Young Jack Thompson. Boxing career Thompson became a professional fighter in 1922. He reeled off a series of wins, but also had a draw and a loss to future welterweight champion Young Corbett III. Jack Byron Thompson (born May 18, 1956), nicknamed "the Throwin' Samoan", is an American Samoan former professional football quarterback. Thompson played in the National Football League (NFL) for six seasons, four with the Cincinnati Bengals and two with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jack Thompson (born 1988) is an Australian cyclist who made a world record of riding most kilometres unsupported in a week. He documents his challenges in the form of documentary films. Thompson is based in Girona, Spain. Biography Having grown up in Perth, Thompson started cycling when he was a teenager. He attended and graduated from Scotch College in Perth, Western Australia and later on got his Bachelor's degree from Curtin University. Instead of pursuing a career in professional cycling, Thompson started riding long miles in remote locations to build up his endurance for ultra-cycling.
