Jack Melchor
Jack Leon Melchor (July 6, 1925 – September 5, 2015) was an American engineer and venture capitalist who is considered a major figure in the early commercial history of Silicon Valley. Early life and education Melchor was born in Mooresville, North Carolina, and raised in China Grove, North Carolina. During World War II, he participated in the V-12 Navy College Training Program and was commissioned an ensign in the United States Navy. Following the war, Melchor completed his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Physics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received a PhD from the University of Notre Dame in 1953. Career After completing his doctoral work, Melchor relocated to California where he began employment at Sylvania Electronic Defense Labs. In the 1950s he established his own company, Melabs, which he sold in 1960 after developing six microwave technology patents.
