Jack Hurst (historian)
George John Hurst (27 October 1914 – February 2002) was an English footballer who played as a centre half. Career In May 1933, Hurst signed for Bolton Wanderers from Lever Bridge Juniors. Hurst made 60 Football League appearances for Bolton, scoring twice. A period of Hurst's time at the club was taken up by World War II. Hurst, alongside 16 other Bolton players, joined the 53rd (Bolton) Field Regiment, Royal Artillery. During Hurst's time in World War II, his only son died from a burst appendix as well as Hurst himself suffering hearing loss during the Battle of Monte Cassino. In February 1947, Hurst joined Oldham Athletic, making 98 league appearances. Darcy Lever
Darcy Lever is an area of the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton in Greater Manchester, England. Historically part of Lancashire, the area lies on the B6209 (Radcliffe Road), between Bolton and Little Lever. Its history dates to the time of William the Conqueror when it was part of the Salford Hundred given to Roger of Poitou for his participation in the Norman conquest of England. History Toponymy Lever was recorded as Parua Lefre in 1212, from the Latin, parva meaning little and laefre, which is derived from the Old English meaning 'place where the rushes grow'. Battle Of Monte Cassino
The Battle of Monte Cassino, also known as the Battle for Rome and the Battle for Cassino, was a series of four assaults made by the Allies against German forces in Italy during the Italian Campaign of World War II. The ultimate objective was to break through the Winter Line, and facilitate an advance towards Rome. At the beginning of 1944, the western half of the Winter Line was anchored by Germans holding the Rapido- Gari, Liri and Garigliano valleys and several of the surrounding peaks and ridges.
