Jack Garland (Canadian Politician)
John Richard Garland (January 1, 1918 – March 14, 1964) was a Canadian politician, who was a longtime member of the House of Commons of Canada for the riding of Nipissing. He was a member of the Liberal Party of Canada. Garland was first elected in 1949, when incumbent member Léo Gauthier moved to represent the new Sudbury riding. He was reelected in every subsequent election until his death in 1964. Garland was appointed Minister of National Revenue in the government of Lester Pearson in 1963, and held that cabinet position when he died. He was given a state funeral. As a member of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada he was entitled to use the honorific The Honourable. Lester Bowles "Mike" Pearson (23 April 1897 – 27 December 1972) was a Canadian scholar, statesman, diplomat, and politician who served as the 14th prime minister of Canada from 1963 to 1968. Smithfield is a neighbourhood and former village in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Some new residents of Toronto and new immigrants to Canada are attracted to this neighbourhood, mainly because there is a large amount of affordable public housing. It is named after the former village of Smithfield that was located at the intersection of Albion Road and Martin Grove Road. The neighbourhood is located north of the west branch of the Humber River and west of Kipling Avenue. Smithfield was established as a postal village in 1870 to serve the then-agricultural district. North Bay Airport or North Bay/Jack Garland Airport in North Bay, Ontario, Canada is located at Hornell Heights, north-northeast of the city. It is located adjacent to Canadian Forces Base North Bay, operational since 1951 (as RCAF Station North Bay until 1966), the operational control centre for Canadian operations of the North American Aerospace Defense Command. The airport is named in memory of Jack Garland, a longtime Member of Parliament for North Bay's Nipissing electoral district. Until 2004 it hosted an annual air show during North Bay's Heritage Festival, with a large military component. North Bay, Ontario
North Bay is a city in Northeastern Ontario, Canada. It is the seat of Nipissing District, Ontario, Nipissing District, and takes its name from its position on the shore of Lake Nipissing.
