Jack Carroll (hurler)
Jack Carroll (1921–1998) is an Irish hurler who played as a goalkeeper for the Offaly senior hurling team. Carroll made his first appearance for the team during the 1943 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the 1953 championship. During that time he enjoyed little success as Offaly were regarded as one of the minnows of provincial hurling. At club level Carroll was a five-time county club championship medalist with Coolderry. Carroll's father-in-law, "Red" Jack Teehan, his son, Pat Carroll, and his grandson, Brian Carroll Brian Carroll (born July 20, 1981) is an American retired soccer player who last played for Philadelphia Union in Major League Soccer. Coolderry GAA
Coolderry GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the town of Coolderry in County Offaly, Ireland. The club is the most successful side in the Offaly Senior Hurling Championship with a record 31 titles. Its facilities include a clubhouse with four dressing rooms, floodlights, ball wall, two pitches, a running track and a gym. Its most recent win was 2018 beating Kilcormac Kiloughey. History The club was founded in the early 1880s. Coolderry's first victory was in 1890 when Coolderry beat Kilcormac, but Offaly was not at that time affiliated to the central body, the win was not officially recognised. The team's first Senior Final winning team was in 1899. Between 1899 and 1916 Coolderry won 10 Senior Titles, and in the 10 Championship Finals they only conceded 2 goals. Coolderry Hurlers
Coolderry () is a small roadside village in southern County Offaly, Ireland. It is located 8 kilometres north of Roscrea and 11 kilometres south of Birr. The village lies close to the Slieve Bloom Mountains. Places of note include Gloster House and Leap Castle. Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. Brian Carroll (hurler)
Brian Carroll (born 13 June 1983) is an Irish hurler who played as a right corner-forward for the Offaly senior team. Born in Coolderry, County Offaly, Carroll was introduced to hurling by his father, Pat Carroll, a two-time All-Ireland medallist with Offaly. His grandfather, Jack Carroll, and his great-grandfather, "Red" Jack Teehan, also played hurling at various levels with Offaly. Carroll enjoyed All-Ireland success at colleges level with St. Kieran's College while simultaneously enjoying championship successes at underage levels with the Coolderry club. A one-time All-Ireland runner-up with the Coolderry senior team, Carroll has won one Leinster medal and five championship medals. Carroll made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he first linked up with the Offaly minor team. A Leinster medallist in this grade, he later played with the under-21 team. Pat Carroll (hurler)
Pat Carroll (11 February 1956 – 16 March 1986) was an Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Coolderry and with the Offaly senior inter-county team from 1977 until 1985. Early & private life Pat Carroll was born in Newhall, County Offaly in 1956. He was born into a family that had a strong association with hurling. His father was the goalkeeper on the Offaly and Leinster teams while his granduncles, Jim and Joe, played with the county and won two junior All-Ireland titles in 1923 and 1929. While his grandfather Red Jack Teehan was the first Offaly man to hurl for Leinster. Carroll grew up on the family farm and was educated at Coolderry national school and the Presentation College in Birr. After finishing school he farmed his fathers dairy farm. The Offaly Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Molloy Environmental Senior Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition contested by top-tier Offaly GAA clubs. The Offaly County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1896. Shinrone are the title holders (2022) defeating Kilcormac–Killoughey in the Final. The 1943 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 57th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county hurling tournament. The championship began non 2 May 1943 and ended on 5 September 1943. The championship was won by Cork who secured the title following a 5-16 to 0-4 defeat of Antrim in the All-Ireland final.
