Jack Allen Charney
Jack Allen Charney (born 7 October 1919 - 2002) was an American mid-century architect who designed a number of significant buildings in various cities across California, including Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, San Francisco and Long Beach. His designs include the 32-story Sierra Towers in West Hollywood, from 1965. Life and career Charney was born in San Francisco, California. While working as a licensed general contractor, Charney attended the Art Center School where he studied architecture under Rudolph Schindler and Richard Neutra. By February 1955 Charney had won the construction contract for the second rebuilding of landmark Hollywood restaurant Perino's, at 4101 Wilshire. The architect was Charney's sometime collaborator Alfred March. EDAW was an international landscape architecture, urban and environmental design firm that operated from 1939 until 2009. Starting in San Francisco, United States, the company at its peak had 32 offices worldwide. EDAW led many landscape architecture, land planning and master planning projects, developing a reputation as an early innovator in sustainable urban development and multidisciplinary design. EDAW is an acronym derived from Eckbo, Dean, Austin and Williams, the names of four of the firm's original partners: Garrett Eckbo, Francis Dean, Don Austin, and Edward Williams. Diamond Heights is a neighborhood in central San Francisco, California, roughly bordered by Diamond Heights Boulevard and Noe Valley to the north and east and Glen Canyon Park to the south and west. It is built on three hills: Red Rock Heights on the northwest, Gold Mine Hill in center, and Fairmount Heights (including Billy Goat Hill) on the southeast. History Diamond Heights was a San Francisco Redevelopment Agency project active from 1948 until 1978.
