Jacek Dominik
Jacek Dominik (born 15 July 1969 in Piaseczno) is a Polish civil servant who served briefly as a European Commissioner in 2014. At Warsaw University, Dominik took a bachelor's degree in law and administration, where he also later earned a post-graduate degree in law and economies of the European Communities. From 1993 to 1998 he was an official of the Ministry of Finance, before becoming a financial advisor to Poland's permanent representative to the European Union in 1998. He returned to Poland in 2004 to be an adviser to the Ministry of Finance, from 2004 to 2006, when he became an Under-Secretary of State in the Ministry of Finance. He was also a member of the Administrative Council of the Council of Europe Development Bank, an Alternate Governor of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and a Director of the European Investment Bank. Piaseczno
Piaseczno is a town in east-central Poland with 47,660 inhabitants. It is situated in the Masovian Voivodeship, within the Warsaw metropolitan area, just south of Warsaw, approximately south of its center. It is a popular residential area and a suburb of Warsaw that is strongly linked to the capital, both economically and culturally. It is the capital city of Piaseczno County. Janusz Antoni Lewandowski (; born 13 June 1951) is a Polish politician and economist belonging to the Gdańsk liberals group, and a former member of the European Parliament (elected on 13 June 2004), Chairman of the Committee on Budgets. On 27 November 2009 he obtained the post of Budget and Financial Programming Commissioner of the European Commission and is affiliated to the European People's Party (EPP). He was re-elected for the 8th term (2014–2019) of the European Parliament, as a member of the EPP group. Biography Lewandowski was born in Lublin. The Barroso Commission was the European Commission in office from 22 November 2004 until 31 October 2014. Its president was José Manuel Barroso, who presided over 27 other commissioners (one from each of the states composing the European Union, aside from Portugal, which is Barroso's state). On 16 September 2009 Barroso was re-elected by the European Parliament for a further five years and his Commission was approved to take office on 9 February 2010. A European Commissioner is a member of the 27-member European Commission. Each member within the Commission holds a specific portfolio. The commission is led by the President of the European Commission. In simple terms they are the equivalent of government ministers. Appointment Commissioners are nominated by member states in consultation with the commission president, who then selects a team of commissioners. This team of nominees are then subject to hearings at the European Parliament, which questions them and then votes on their suitability as a whole. If members of the team are found to be inappropriate, the president must then reshuffle the team or request a new candidate from the member state or risk the whole commission being voted down.
