Jac Jansen
Jac Jansen (born February 29, 1956) is a retired lieutenant general of the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF). He was the Commander of the RNLAF from May 2008 until he left the service in 2012, he was director of Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre in April 2012 and left in 2017. As of September 21, 2018 he chaires the Supervisory Board of Royal NLR. Born in Maastricht, Limburg, Jansen enrolled in the Royal Military Academy, Breda as an officer cadet in 1975. He had his pilot training in Canada, after receiving his military pilot certificate with his conversion to the NF-5 at Twenthe Air Base in 1981, he was posted to Eindhoven Air Base in 1981 spending seven years as an operational pilot in 314 Squadron. He later went on to the Air Force Staff School for a high staff course in 1988 to 1990. Operation Deny Flight
Operation Deny Flight was a North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) operation that began on 12 April 1993 as the enforcement of a United Nations (UN) no-fly zone over Bosnia and Herzegovina. The United Nations and NATO later expanded the mission of the operation to include providing close air support for UN troops in Bosnia and carrying out coercive air strikes against targets in Bosnia. Twelve NATO members contributed forces to the operation and, by its end on 20 December 1995, NATO pilots had flown 100,420 sorties. The operation played an important role in shaping both the Bosnian War and NATO. The operation included the first combat engagement in NATO's history, a 28 February 1994 air battle over Banja Luka, and in April 1994, NATO aircraft first bombed ground targets in an operation near Goražde. NATO Defence College
NATO Defense College (NDC) is the international military college for North Atlantic Treaty Organization countries. It is located in Rome, Italy. History The idea of a NATO Defense College originated with General Dwight D. Eisenhower, the first Supreme Allied Commander Europe, who identified very early on the need for a new international institution with a unique education mission. Twenthe Airbase
Enschede Airport Twente is located outside of Enschede in Overijssel, Netherlands. It has one runway (05/23), though one of the current taxiways has been used as a runway (taxiway A, formerly runway 16/34). The airport is currently uncontrolled and closed for scheduled passenger flights and military operations. A local flying club uses the airport for their activities. The airfield has also been approved for limited use by business charter operators and aircraft scrapping, storage and maintenance. History Twente Airport was opened July 1931 by the mayor of Enschede, Edo Bergsma. KLM started a scheduled flight to Amsterdam in 1932, which was suspended in 1939. Volkel Air Base
Volkel Air Base ( nl, Vliegbasis Volkel) is a military airbase used by the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) - Dutch: ''Koninklijke Luchtmacht (KLu)'', and is located near the village of Volkel in North Brabant, Netherlands.
