JTAGS
The Joint Tactical Ground Station (JTAGS) is the 5th Space Warning Squadron's element to United States Space Command's Theater Event System (TES). TES provides an integrated, global, 24-hour overhead persistent infrared (OPIR) detection capability for processing and disseminating missile early warning, alerting, and cueing information data to combatant commanders and missile defense assets through the ground processing of infrared satellite data. JTAGS is the Space Force's primary system that provides space based integrated, in-theater missile warning. It provides continuous processing of OPIR data that is directly down linked from the Defense Support Program (DSP) and Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS) satellite constellations. This data is used to provide near real-time dissemination of warning, alerting and cueing information, to combatant commanders (CCDRs) and ballistic missile defense systems (BMDS), on ballistic missile threats for the protection of military assets, civilia ...

Theater Event System
The United States Theater Event System (TES) is a missile-warning system. The TES is composed of three ground elements: the Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) Mission Control Station, the Joint Tactical Ground Station (JTAGS), and the Tactical Detection and Reporting system. The TES in-theater capability will be enhanced significantly as its hardware and software are upgraded to interface with the future SBIRS High and Space Tracking and Surveillance System satellite constellations.High Frontier Journal, Vol 4, No. 1: "The Army's Space Cadre"

It is also one of two List of space forces, units, and formations#Independent space forces, independent space forces in the world. The United States Space Force traces its origins to the Air Force, Army, and Navy's military space programs created during the beginning of the Cold War. US military space forces first participated in combat operations during the Vietnam War and have participated in every U.S. military operation since, most notably in the Gulf War, which has been referred to as the "first space war." The Strategic Defense Initiative and creation of Air Force Space Command in the 1980s marked a renaissance for military space operations. Proposals for a U.S. Space Force were first seriously considered during the Reagan ...

Defense Support Program
The Defense Support Program (DSP) is a program of the United States Space Force that operated the reconnaissance satellites which form the principal component of the ''Satellite Early Warning System'' used by the United States. DSP satellites, which are operated by the 460th Space Wing, detect missile or spacecraft launches and nuclear explosions using sensors that detect the infrared emissions from these intense sources of heat. During Desert Storm, for example, DSP was able to detect the launches of Iraqi Scud missiles and provide timely warnings to civilians and military forces in Israel and Saudi Arabia. The satellites are in geosynchronous orbits, and are equipped with infrared sensors operating through a wide-angle Schmidt camera. The entire satellite spins so that the linear sensor array in the focal plane scans over the Earth six times every minute. Typically, DSP satellites were launched on Titan IVB boosters with Inertial Upper Stages. However, one DSP satellit ...

Military Equipment
A military, also known collectively as armed forces, is a heavily armed, highly organized force primarily intended for warfare. Militaries are typically authorized and maintained by a sovereign state, with their members identifiable by a distinct military uniform. They may consist of one or more military branches such as an army, navy, air force, space force, marines, or coast guard. The main task of a military is usually defined as defence of their state and its interests against external armed threats. In broad usage, the terms "armed forces" and "military" are often synonymous, although in technical usage a distinction is sometimes made in which a country's armed forces may include other paramilitary forces such as armed police. Beyond warfare, the military may be employed in additional sanctioned and non-sanctioned functions within the state, including internal security threats, crowd control, promotion of political agendas, emergency services and reconstructio ...
