USS McCampbell
USS ''McCampbell'' (DDG-85) is an in the United States Navy. She is named in honor of Naval Aviator Captain David S. McCampbell, a Medal of Honor and Navy Cross recipient who was the Navy's leading ace in World War II. This ship is the 35th destroyer of her class. USS ''Curtis Wilbur'' (DDG-54) is the fourth guided missile destroyer. ''Curtis Wilbur'' was named for Curtis D. Wilbur, forty-third Secretary of the Navy, who served under President Calvin Coolidge. In 2016, she was based at Yokosuka, Japan, as part of Destroyer Squadron 15. Built by Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine, she was commissioned in Long Beach, California, on 19 March 1994. JS Ariake (DD-109)
JS ''Ariake'' (DD-109) (ありあけ) is the ninth ship of s. She was commissioned on 6 March 2002. Design The hull design was completely renovated from first-generation DDs. In addition to increasing the size in order to reduce the underwater radiation noise, both superstructure and hull was inclined to reduce the radar cross-section. There is however no angled tripod mainmast like the one of the American because of the heavy weather of the Sea of Japan in winter. The aft was designed like a "mini- Oranda-zaka" as with the to avoid interference between helicopters and mooring devices. Destroyers built under the First Defense Build-up Plan, including the former , adopted a unique long forecastle style called "Oranda-zaka". USS ''Tortuga'' (LSD-46) is a of the United States Navy. She was the second Navy ship to be named for the Dry Tortugas, a group of desert coral islets west of Key West, Florida. ''Tortuga'' was laid down on 23 March 1987, by the Avondale Shipyards, New Orleans, Louisiana. is the largest and the most populous island among the Miyako Islands of Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. A carrier strike group (CSG) is a type of carrier battle group of the United States Navy. It is an operational formation composed of roughly 7,500 personnel, usually an aircraft carrier, at least one cruiser, a destroyer squadron of at least two destroyers or frigates, and a carrier air wing of 65 to 70 aircraft. ''Liaoning'' (16; ) is a Chinese Type 001 aircraft carrier. The first aircraft carrier commissioned into the People's Liberation Army Navy Surface Force, she was originally classified as a training ship, intended to allow the Navy to experiment, train and gain familiarity with aircraft carrier operations. JS ''Asahi'' (DD-119) is the lead ship of the Asahi-class destroyer of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force. Her namesake came from “ Morning sun”. Development The procurement of the destroyer began in 2013 in response to the reduction in the number of destroyers (namely the ) within the JMSDF. The two major characteristics of this destroyer is its bigger emphasis on anti-submarine warfare and the adoption of the COGLAG (combined gas turbine electric and gas turbine) propulsion system.
