JJ Slevin
James Joseph Slevin (born July 1992) is an Irish National Hunt jockey, who has ridden multiple Grade 1 winners and two Irish Grand National winners. In January 2025 he was appointed retained rider to owners Simon Munir and Isaac Souede. Background Slevin comes from a racing background. His father, Shay Slevin, is a trainer and his mother, Elizabeth, is the sister of trainer Aidan O'Brien. Slevin grew up in Kiltrea, near Enniscorthy in County Wexford. He obtained a degree in journalism from Griffith College Dublin, while his brother Mark trained as a vet. Career as a jockey Slevin rode for several years as an amateur jockey. Jockey
A jockey is someone who rides horses in horse racing or steeplechase (horse racing), steeplechase racing, primarily as a profession. The word also applies to camel riders in camel racing. The word "jockey" originated from England and was used to describe the individual who rode horses in racing. They must be light, typically around a weight of 100–120 lb. (45–55 kg), and physically fit. They are typically self-employed, and are paid a small fee from the horse trainer, whose colors they wear while competing in a race. Gordon Elliott (racehorse Trainer)
Gordon Elliott (born 2 March 1978) is a County Meath-based National Hunt racehorse trainer. After riding as an amateur jockey, he took out a trainer's licence in 2006. He was 29 when his first Grand National entry, the 33 to 1 outsider Silver Birch, won the 2007 race. In 2018 and 2019 he won the Grand National with Tiger Roll, ridden by Davy Russell and owned by Gigginstown House Stud, the first horse since Red Rum to win the race twice. In 2018 he also won the Irish Grand National, with General Principle. On two occasions, in 2017 and 2018, he was the top trainer at the Cheltenham Festival. The Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle, known for sponsorship purposes as the Hallgarten and Novum Wines Juvenile Handicap Hurdle, is a Premier Handicap National Hunt hurdle race in Great Britain which is open to horses aged four years. It is run at Leopardstown Racecourse in December, over a distance of 3 miles (4,828 metres) and during its running there are 12 flights of hurdles to be jumped. Daryl Jacob (born 25 August 1983) is a retired Irish National Hunt jockey, who rode 31 Grade 1 winners and won the 2012 Grand National on Neptune Collonges. Based in Britain from 2003, he was attached to the yard of Paul Nicholls from 2011 to 2014, initially as second jockey to Ruby Walsh and then as first jockey. The John Durkan Memorial Chase is a Grade 1 National Hunt steeplechase in Ireland. It is run over a distance of about 2 miles and 4 furlongs {2 miles 4 furlongs and 40 yards, or 4,060 metres) at Punchestown in December. The race was first run in 1968 and it was run over a distance of 2 miles until 1973. It has been run over the present distance since then apart from in 1993 and 1994, when it was run over 2 miles and 5 furlongs. The Punchestown Gold Cup is a Grade 1 National Hunt steeplechase in Ireland which is open to horses aged five years or older. It is run at Punchestown over a distance of about 3 miles and ½ furlong (3 miles and 120 yards, or ), and during its running there are seventeen fences to be jumped. The race is scheduled to take place each year during the Punchestown Festival in late April or early May. The present version of the race was introduced in 1999, when it replaced a previous version for novice chasers only. Joseph Patrick O'Brien
Joseph Patrick O'Brien (born 23 May 1993) is an Irish horse racing trainer and former flat racing jockey. He is the son of trainer Aidan O'Brien. In 2012 he rode Camelot to win the 2,000 Guineas, the 2012 Epsom Derby and the Irish Derby. Riding career O'Brien won a bronze medal at the 2009 European Pony Championships and was one of three jockeys who shared the Irish champion apprentice jockeys' title in 2010. He rode his first winner on Johann Zoffany, trained by his father, at Leopardstown Racecourse on 28 May 2009 and gained his first classic success when Roderic O'Connor won the 2011 Irish 2,000 Guineas.
