JF Mitchell Airport
J. F. Mitchell Airport , also known as Bequia Airport, is the airport serving Bequia island, Grenadines Parish, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, including Grenadines Parish' capital Port Elizabeth. It is named after Sir James Fitz-Allen Mitchell, , former Premier (1972-1974) and Prime Minister (1984-2000) of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. In 1990, a land reclamation project was undertaken in Paget Farm for the construction of the island's J.F. Mitchell Airport. Moonhole, a private nature preserve of 19 homes built into a volcanic rock face, are located near the airport. Mustique Airport is a private airfield owned by the Mustique Company for public use and is located on Mustique island, part of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in the Caribbean Sea. It is used by civil aviation and national airlines using turboprop planes. The traffic has a large seasonal variation with many more passengers in the winter. The airport has a short takeoff and landing (STOL) runway with a displaced threshold, thus limiting the aircraft types allowed to land. An airstair is a set of steps built into an aircraft so that passengers may board and alight the aircraft. The stairs are often built into a clamshell-style door on the aircraft. Airstairs eliminate the need for passengers to use a mobile stairway or jetway to board or exit the aircraft, providing more independence from ground services.
