J. Waddy Tate
J. Waddy Tate (February 21, 1870 – January 11, 1938) was the mayor of Dallas, Texas, from 1929 to 1931. Biography John Waddy Tate was born February 21, 1870, in Columbus, Colorado, Texas, at the Tate-Senftenberg-Brandon House. Tate's parents were local entrepreneur Phocion Tate and Bettie Branch Carter a descendant of William Thornton (Virginia burgess), William Thornton. His father died in 1876 and his mother remarried in 1882 to David T. Davis. Following his mother's second marriage the family removed to Houston, Texas. Tom Bradford
Thomas Leonard Bradford (February 13, 1869 – August 22, 1932) was Mayor of Dallas, Texas from 1931 until his death by heart attack in 1932. Tom Bradford was born in Port Hudson, Louisiana to the Rev. Harrison Bradford and Elizabeth Shelmire Bradford. Bradford graduated from Centenary College of Louisiana before moving to Dallas in 1887. Tate-Senftenberg-Brandon House
The Tate-Senftenberg-Brandon House is a historic house in Columbus, Texas. The home was constructed in 1867 as a single story frame residence by local entrepreneur Phocion Tate. Tate's widow sold the house in 1887 to Adolph Senftenberg, a local merchant who added the second floor and Eastlake style porches. The property was sold again in 1900 to Kenneth Brandon who added modern amenities to the property. The house operated as a historic house museum from 1968 to 2006. William Thornton (Virginia Burgess)
William Thornton (December 20, 1717 – 1790) was a planter and public official in Colonial Virginia. Thornton served as member of the House of Burgesses for Brunswick County from 1756 to 1768 and as justice of the county and of the quorum as early as 1760 and as late as 1774/5. Thornton was the great-grandson of William Thornton who arrived in Virginia from England as late as 1646 settling in Gloucester County, Virginia. He was through his paternal line a cousin of fellow burgesses, Francis Thornton of Spotsylvania, Presley Thornton of Northumberland, George Thornton of Spotsylvania, William Thornton of King George and William Thornton of Richmond County, Virginia.
