J. T. Meirelles
João Theodoro Meirelles (October 10, 1940 – June 3, 2008), better known as J. T. Meirelles, was a Brazilian saxophonist and flautist. He was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and died at 67 years old in that same city. Meirelles is considered one of the creators of the samba-jazz rhythm, along with Manfredo Fest. Biography Meirelles was born in 1940 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and started his musical studies at 8 years old and graduated in Berklee School of Music, in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. In 1957, he started his musical career, playing in João Donato's group, while in Rio de Janeiro, and joining the pianist Luís Loy, when he moved to São Paulo. 1963 was one of the most important years in the musician career. Luiz de Oliveira da Costa Maia (April 3, 1949 – January 28, 2005) is widely acknowledged as the father of the modern Brazilian bass. Márcio Montarroyos
Márcio Montarroyos (8 July 1948 – 12 December 2007) was a Brazilian jazz trumpet player. Starting his studies with classical piano, he later went to trumpet and jazz. In the 1970s, he traveled to the US to study at Berklee School of Music. In 1988, the Swiss TV invited Montarroyos to produce two one-hour concerts together with the German guitar player Sigi Schwab, bassist Marc Egan, percussionist Freddie Santiago and drummer Guillermo Marchena. In 1992, the German TV network ZDF invited him, together with Sigi Schwab, to play live concert. In the same year both artists played at the Munich Studio 2000+2 . He played with artists including Stevie Wonder, Sérgio Mendes, Sarah Vaughan, Hermeto Pascoal, Nancy Wilson, Egberto Gismonti, Carlos Santana, Milton Nascimento, Ella Fitzgerald, Tom Jobim and Ney Matogrosso.
