J. Michael Mendel
Joel Michael Mendel (September 24, 1964 – September 22, 2019) was an American television producer. He was a five-time Emmy Award winner for his work on ''The Simpsons'' and ''Rick and Morty''. Career Mendel first worked in television as a production assistant on ''All My Children'' and '' Loving'' during his summer breaks from studies at Syracuse University. After graduating Syracuse with a Bachelor of Science in television and film production, he worked with James L. Brooks and Gracie Films on '' Broadcast News'', ''Big'', and ''The Tracey Ullman Show''. When ''Tracey Ullman''s ''The Simpsons'' shorts were spun off into their own series, Mendel joined its staff as the show's producer, serving from season 1 to season 10. Radford (formerly Lovely Mount, Central City, English Ferry and Ingle's Ferry) is an Independent city (United States), independent city in the U.S. state of Virginia. As of 2020, the population was 16,070 by the United States Census Bureau. The first season of the American animated sitcom ''The Simpsons'' aired on Fox between December 17, 1989 and May 13, 1990. It premiered with the Christmas special " Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire". The executive producers for the first production season were Matt Groening, James L. Brooks, and Sam Simon. It was produced by Gracie Films and 20th Century Fox Television. The series was originally set to debut in fall 1989 with the episode " Some Enchanted Evening" (which was meant to introduce the main characters), but during the first screening of the episode, the producers discovered that the animation was so poor that 70% of the episode needed to be redone. The producers considered aborting the series if the next episode turned out as bad, but it suffered from only easily fixable problems. "Homer's Phobia" is the fifteenth episode of the eighth season of the American animated television series ''The Simpsons''. It first aired on the Fox network in the United States on February 16, 1997. In the episode, Homer dissociates himself from new family friend John after discovering John is homosexual. Homer particularly fears that his son Bart will become gay if Bart spends time with John, so Homer decides to do hypermasculine activities with Bart, believing the activities will ensure Bart turns out to be heterosexual.
