J. C. Jacobsen Garden
The J. C. Jacobsen Garden ( Danish: J. C. Jacobsens Have), also known as the Academy Garden (Danish: Akademihaven), is a public garden in the Carlsberg area of Copenhagen, Denmark. The main entrance is through a pergola on the left-hand side of the Tap E building, a former bottling plant which now serves as a cultural venue. History The garden was originally the private garden of J.C. Jacobsen, the founder of Carlsberg Breweries, and laid out in 1849 in connection with his private villa. The garden plan was created by landscape architect Rudolph Rothe (1802-1877), a personal friend of Jacobsen who also took great personal interest in its design. He brought home inspiration as well as rare varieties of trees and other plants from his travels. Soil from the construction of the brewery's extensive system of cellars was utilized to create topographical variation. Carlsberg (district)
Carlsberg (; , ), is an area located straddling the border of Valby and Vesterbro districts in central Copenhagen, Denmark approximately 2.4 km from the City Hall Square. The area emerged when J.C. Jacobsen founded his original brewery in the district in 1847. The first brewing took place on 11 November 1847 and production continued until 30 October 2008, when production was moved to Fredericia in Jutland. The Jacobsen House Brewery is however still located in the district and produces specialty beers. The entire brewery grounds spread over more than 30 hectares and is currently being transformed into a new city district in Copenhagen. The area is dominated by numerous historic and restored 19th- and early 20th-century buildings, many of which have lavish ornamentations, as well as two historic gardens. Tap E is a former storage building of a bottling plant in the Vesterbro district of Copenhagen, Denmark, part of Carlsberg's historic brewery site which is now known simply as the Carlsberg area. After the production of beer in the area stopped in 2009, the listed building has been taken unto use as a cultural venue which houses both a centre for modern dance, '' Dansehallerne'', and Fotografisk Center, a gallery and digital laboratory dedicated to fine art photography. The building borders on the J. C. Jacobsen Garden accessed through a pergola running along the left-hand side of the building. Rudolph Rothe
Rudolph Rothe (18 October 1802 – 30 January 1877) was a Danish landscape architect who was awarded the high-ranking title of ''etatsråd'' for his achievements. Talented in both the practical and theoretical aspects of landscape gardening, he exerted considerable influence on the development of the art in Denmark. Early life After apprenticeships in Frederiksberg Park and Rosenborg Gardens, he took the gardening examination in 1821. He became assistant gardener in Copenhagen's Botanical Garden (1821–1823) before qualifying in botany and botanical gardening in 1823. Career From 1828 to 1833, he performed the duties both of private secretary and palace gardener for A.W. Moltke at Bregentved. Malene Hauxner
Malene Hauxner (18 September 1942 – 18 January 2012) was a Danish landscape architect, author, educator and professor of Theory, Method and History at the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University (KVL). Biography Hauxner was born in Frederiksberg, Denmark. Her parents were Jørgen Bo and Gerda Rigmor Boisen Bennike. She became a landscape architect after graduating from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture in 1968. In 1993 she was awarded a doctoral degree (Dr. agronomiae). From 1975 she worked in parallel as assistant professor in retail planning, later as associate professor at KVL. In 1979 she established her own landscape design firm.
