J.J. Ncongwane
Jabulane Johan Ncongwane, better known by his pen name J.J. Ncongwane (born 30 September 1961), is a South African novelist, short-story author, poet and educator who writes in Siswati. He was born at KaMagwamazi farm in Chief Albert Luthuli's Carolina area. Ncongwane is regarded as one of the central figures in South Africa's Siswati literature. He is currently employed in the Parliament of South Africa as a Language Practitioner. He has written many Siswati books, including educational manuals, novels, short-stories, poems, and drama-plays and has co-authored several others since 1985. His work is taught at South Africa's high and tertiary schools. Carolina is an urban-rural area situated at the intersection of the R33 (South Africa), R33, R36 (South Africa), R36 and R38 (South Africa), R38 routes in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa. The town lies in the grass and wetlands region of Mpumalanga at 1700 meters above sea level. It is a mixed farming and small-scale coal- and precious-stone-mining community. History Carolina was established by Cornelius Johannes Coetzee as a permanent outspan for wagons when gold was discovered in 1883 in Barberton, Mpumalanga, Barberton. The town of Carolina was proclaimed on 15 June 1886 and named after his wife Magdalena Carolina Smit. M-Net Literary Awards
M-Net Literary Awards were a group of South African literary awards, awarded from 1991 to 2013. They were established and sponsored by M-Net (Electronic Media Network), a South African television station. The award was suspended indefinitely after the 2013 season. In the awards' fourth year, an award for indigenous African languages was inaugurated, alongside the original English and Afrikaans awards, to encourage writing in indigenous languages. In subsequent years there were six language categories, covering all eleven official South African languages: English; Afrikaans; Nguni ( Zulu, Xhosa, Ndebele, and Swati); SeSotho (Sotho, Pedi, and Tswana); TshiVenda; and SeTsonga. Maskew Miller Longman Literature Awards
The Maskew Miller Longman Literature Awards were established in c.1980 by Maskew Miller Longman, an educational publishing company in South Africa. The competition was created to encourage writing in all of South Africa's 11 official languages, with a particular focus on literature suitable for a youth audience. The genres rotate each year between novels, drama and short stories. It is the only competition to invite entries in all official languages. Gcina Mhlophe
Mhlophe (born 24 October 1958), known as Gcina Mhlophe, is a South African storyteller, writer, playwright, and actress. In 2016, she was listed as one of BBC's 100 Women. She tells her stories in four of South Africa's languages: English, Afrikaans, Zulu and Xhosa, and also helps to motivate children to read. Childhood Nokugcina Elsie Mhlophe was born on 24 October 1958 in Hammarsdale, KwaZulu-Natal, to a Xhosa mother and a Zulu father.
