Indre Østfold (municipality)
Indre Østfold is a municipality in the region of Indre Østfold in Østfold county. The municipality was established on 1 January 2020 by a merger of the five municipalities Askim, Eidsberg, Hobøl, Spydeberg and Trøgstad. The municipality has a total population of just under 45,000, spread out over several small towns such as Askim, Mysen, Spydeberg, Skjønhaug and Tomter. This is quite unusual for Norwegian municipalities. Bokmål
Bokmål () (, ; ) is an official written standard for the Norwegian language, alongside Nynorsk. Bokmål is the preferred written standard of Norwegian for 85% to 90% of the population in Norway. Unlike, for instance, the Italian language, there is no nationwide standard or agreement on the pronunciation of Bokmål. Bokmål is regulated by the governmental Language Council of Norway. A more conservative orthographic standard, commonly known as ''Riksmål'', is regulated by the non-governmental Norwegian Academy for Language and Literature. The written standard is a Norwegianised variety of the Danish language. The first Bokmål orthography was officially adopted in 1907 under the name ''Riksmål'' after being under development since 1879. Halvor Heyerdahl Rasch
Halvor Heyerdahl Rasch (8 January 1805 – 26 August 1883) was a Norwegian zoologist and educator. He was born at Eidsberg in Østfold, Norway. Rasch studied botany and zoology at the University of Christiania (now University of Oslo). He was a professor of zoology and natural science at the University of Oslo from 1852 to 1874, having previously been a lector since 1847. An avid hunter and sportsman, he published the book ''Jagten i Norge'' (1845) as well as works about livestock, oyster cultivation and beekeeping. He was among the founders of the ''Centralforeningen for Udbredelse af Legemsøvelser og Vaabenbrug'', a precursor to the Norwegian Confederation of Sports, in 1861. Enevold Thømt
Martin Enevold Thømt (June 8, 1878 – June 21, 1958) was a Norwegian decorative painter. Life and work Thømt was born in Askim,Waterloo Normannsen, Sølvi. 2010. Klart for nye blikk på gamle skatter. ''UA'' (September 6). the son of Karl P. Thømt and Julie Nygaard Thømt. He was responsible for decorating many Norwegian churches. Thømt specialized in decorative frescoes that were often inspired by Norwegian folk art, but the colors in Thømt's frescoes were usually far more subdued and the number of colors more limited than seen in folk art. He was apprenticed to the decorative painter Wilhelm Krogh in Oslo from 1897 to 1900. From 1900 to 1903 he studied at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry in Oslo under Oscar Wergeland, Wilhelm Krogh, Asmund Stray, and Eivind Nielsen. Erik Mollatt
Erik James Momme Mollatt (born 3 April 1941) is a Norwegian businessperson. He was born in Rygge as the younger brother of Ralph Mollatt, and graduated in economics from the American University in 1967. He was the CEO of M. Peterson & Søn from 1983 to 2002, and under his leadership the company became one of Norway's largest within the field of packaging. He was also instrumental in erecting a statue of Christian Frederik in the city of Moss, to commemorate the Convention of Moss. For his contributions to industry and culture, in 2003 he was proclaimed Knight, First Class of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav. He is also one of two honorary members in the Industrial Association of the city of Moss, the other being Tor Tank-Nielsen. Oddbjørn Engvold
Oddbjørn Engvold (born 7 April 1938) is a Norwegian astronomer. He was born in Askim. His specialty is solar physics, and he was appointed as a professor at the University of Oslo in 1989. He was secretary general of the International Astronomical Union from 2003 to 2006 and a member of the board of Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters from 1993 to 1998.
