Izzat Darwaza
Muhammad 'Izzat Darwaza (; 1888–1984) was a Palestinian politician, historian, and educator from Nablus. Early in his career, he worked as an Ottoman bureaucrat in Palestine and Lebanon. Darwaza had long been a sympathizer of Arab nationalism and became an activist of that cause following the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire in 1916, joining the nationalist al-Fatat society. As such, he campaigned for the union of Greater Syria (modern-day Levant) and vehemently opposed Zionism and foreign mandates in Arab lands. From 1922 to 1927, he served as an educator and as the principal at the an-Najah National School where he implemented a pro-Arab nationalist educational system, promoting the ideas of Arab independence and unity. Izzat Ibrahim Al-Douri
Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri (; 1 July 1942 – 26 October 2020) was an Iraqi politician, military officer and field marshal. He served as Vice Chairman of the Iraqi Revolutionary Command Council until the 2003 invasion of Iraq by the United States and was regarded as the closest advisor and deputy under President Saddam Hussein. He led the Iraqi militant group Naqshbandi Army. Al-Douri was the most high-profile Ba'athist official to successfully evade capture after the invasion of Iraq, and was the "king of clubs" in the infamous U.S. deck of most-wanted Iraqi playing cards. Al-Douri continued to lead elements of the Iraqi resistance such as the Naqshbandi Army against the then-occupation forces and waged an insurgency against the current regime in Baghdad. Izzat Husrieh (; 1914 – 4 November 1975) was a renowned Syrian journalist, author, publisher and researcher. He contributed several books to the Arab library and his famous newspaper ''Al-Alam (Syria), Al-Alam'' continued to form public opinion in Syria for two decades. Early life Husrieh was born to a prominent family in Al-Amara, Amara District in Damascus, Old Damascus, where he was educated in its primary schools. He then continued his education at The Higher Arab Academy for Translation. In 1932, Husrieh began to write a weekly column for the daily, al-Sha'b. One year later, he co-founded the Syrian Labor Union in Damascus and helped establish branches in Aleppo, Homs, and Hama. Izzat Nazarovich Klychev (10 October 1923 – 12 January 2006) was a Soviet and Turkmen painter, incumbent member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR and honorary corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts. Biography Early years Klychev was born on October 10, 1923, in the village of Yalkim in the Bayram-Ali region of Turkmenistan. Izzat's father Annaklych, a mullah, was an educated man and enlightened teacher who taught children a working model of the solar system with a rotation around the Earth and the moon. In 1933, ten-year-old Izzat was sent to exile from Turkmenistan to northern Kazakhstan, along with his family. Izzat's mother and father perished in the labor camp in front of his eyes. Izzat Tannous (1896–1993) was a Palestinian physician and politician who was the representative of the Palestine Arab Higher Committee and the member of the Arab Higher Committee heading its treasury department. He was among the community leaders of the Arab Anglicans in Palestine. He was one of the figures who tried to block partition of Palestine and a cofounder of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). Izzat Yousef Al-Maqrif () is a prominent Libyan political prisoner who was born in Benghazi, Libya in 1952, formerly a senior member of the NFSL (the National Front for the Salvation of Libya). During a stay in Egypt, on the evening of March 12, 1990, Izzat Yousef Al-Maqrif was taken for routine questioning, and hasn't been seen since.
