Iwade Speedway
Iwade Speedway is a motorcycle speedway venue approximately four miles north of Sittingbourne in Kent. The track is located off Old Ferry Road, on the site of a former gun site. History The Iwade training track was initially built in 1971 by Ivor Thomas and his brother, former Hackney Hawks rider Barry Thomas, whilst he was still a rider for the Canterbury Crusaders.Bamford, R & Jarvis J.(2001). In 1986, Wally Mawdsley retired and the Kingsmead Stadium and Canterbury Crusaders, lease was taken over by Chris Galvin. Galvin would allow the Canterbury riders to practice on the Iwade training track but unfortunately the team was forced to disband on 31 October 1987, when the Canterbury Council refused to renew the Kingsmead Stadium lease. Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). 1994 British League Division Three
The 1994 British League Division Three was the third tier/division of British speedway. It was also the final season of the British League before a restructure of the sport. Summary Four new teams entered the league; the first was Cleveland Bays, who shared Cleveland Park Stadium with division 2 parent club Middlesbrough Bears. The second was the Hi-Edge Hitmen, co-promoted by former England rider Chris Morton and based at Buxton Raceway. The other two teams were teams that would race on tracks that were formerly training circuits; Scottish team Linlithgow Lightning based at Heathersfield Stadium, and Iwade Kent Crusaders, who would later withdraw from the league at the end of July. Central Park Stadium formerly Sittingbourne Stadium is a Greyhound racing in the United Kingdom, greyhound racing track, and former Motorcycle speedway, speedway track and football stadium located in Murston, Sittingbourne, Kent, England. The Kent Eagles (formerly the Kent Kings and Kent Royals) are a British motorcycle speedway team formed in 2013. They currently race in the 2025 National Trophy, based at the Iwade Speedway. The 1995 Academy League was the second tier/division of British speedway. It was effectively the same division of teams that had competed in the 1994 British League Division 3 but was renamed because the British League Division 1 and 2 had merged. Summary Iwade speedway returned under a new promotion and new team name of Sittingbourne Crusaders. Cleveland Bays withdrew during the season and their results were expunged. The title was won by Berwick Bandits who had also won the previous season's Division 3 title. Final league table Cleveland Bays withdrew. Fixtures & results Academy League Knockout Cup The 1995 Academy League Knockout Cup was the 28th edition of the Knockout Cup for tier two teams.
